Stochastic Compositional Optimization with Compositional Constraints

open access: yesINFORMS Journal on Optimization
Stochastic compositional optimization (SCO) has attracted considerable attention because of its broad applicability to important real-world problems. However, existing work on SCO typically assumes that the projection within a solution update is straightforward, which is not the case for problem instances where constraints are in the form of ...

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Future Design for Composite Airframe Structures

open access: yes, 2011
European space and aircraft industry demands for reduced development and operating costs. Structural weight reduction by exploitation of structural reserves in composite space and aerospace structures contributes to this aim, however, it requires ...

Damage arrest mechanisms in nanoparticle interleaved composite interfaces

open access: yes, 2022
The effectiveness of carbonaceous nanoparticles in arresting and delaying damage in nanocomposites has been attributed to multiscale toughening mechanisms.

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Influence of Calendering on the Variation in Material Compositions of the Composite Cathode of Polymer‐Based Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesEngineering Reports
High energy densities are vital to satisfy the increasing demand for battery storage systems for electric vehicles. One innovative battery type of the next generation is the solid‐state battery, which is characterized by the high expected energy density.

Geometrically nonlinear analysis of thin-walled composite box beams

open access: yes, 2009
A general geometrically nonlinear model for thin-walled composite space beams with arbitrary lay-ups under various types of loadings has been presented by using variational formulation based on the classical lamination theory.

Multicolor compositions and conjugation of N-color compositions

open access: yesContributions to Discrete Mathematics
We introduce $n$-multicolor compositions which generalize the $n$-color compositions that Agarwal first defined twenty-two years ago. A summand may bear a set of many integer-valued colors which it bounds from above. We enumerate such multicolored compositions using generating functions. Then we isolate the conjugable class of multicolored compositions

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...
