Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Compositional optimization of disjunctive abstract interpretations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We define the inverse operation for disjunctive completion, introducing the notion of least disjunctive basis for an abstract domain D: this is the most abstract domain inducing the same disjunctive completion as D. We show that the least disjunctive basis exists in most cases, and study its properties in relation with reduced product of abstract ...

Geometric optimization via composite majorization [PDF]

open access: yesACM Transactions on Graphics, 2017
Many algorithms on meshes require the minimization of composite objectives, i.e. , energies that are compositions of simpler parts. Canonical examples include mesh parameterization and deformation. We propose a second order optimization approach that exploits this composite structure to efficiently converge to a ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Multi-objective optimization of composite plates using lamination parameters

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2019
Laminated composite plates are extensively used in various industries due to their high stiffness-to-weight ratio and directional properties that allow optimization of the stiffness characteristics for specific applications.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Optimization of multispan ribbed plywood plate macrostructure for multiple load cases

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 2013
This paper discusses an optimized structural plate of plywood composite that consists of top and bottom plywood flanges and a core of plywood ribs. The objective function is structure's weight.

Optimization design based approach for the determination and minimization of the displacement under tensile load in hybrid composite joint

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2020
Composite materials are most often used for lengthier and thin structures susceptible to buckle. The optimization is often carried out taking into consideration the resistance to buckling and tensile loads for minimum displacement i.e maximization of the
