Effect of work-hardening on the relationship between compressive strength and hardness of quenched medium carbon steel

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu
Since it is known that tensile strength and hardness are roughly proportional, a hardness test is often used as a simple and substitute test. However, it has been reported that the proportional relationship between tensile strength and hardness is broken

Effect of Coarse Aggregate Sizes and Replacement Levels on the Strength of Palm Kernel Shell (PKS) Concrete [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The maximum coarse aggregate size used in concrete can impact on its strength. An investigation of the effect of coarse aggregate size and replacement level of granite with palm kernel shell (PKS) on the compressive and tensile strengths of PKS concrete ...

Improved Bar Impact Tests Using A Photonic Doppler Velocimeter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Bar impact tests, using the techniques described elsewhere in this symposium, were used to measure compressive and tensile strengths of borosilicate glass, soda lime glass, and a glass ceramic.

The compressive strength of crumpled matter [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
AbstractCrumpling a sheet creates a unique, stiff and lightweight structure. Use of crumples in engineering design is limited because there are not simple, physically motivated structure-property relations available for crumpled materials; one cannot trust a crumple. On the contrary, we demonstrate that an empirical model reliably predicts the reaction

A Systematic Comparison of Alpha‐Synuclein Seed Amplification Assays for Increasing Reproducibility

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Seed amplification assays (SAAs) enable ultrasensitive detection of misfolded α‐synuclein across biofluids and tissues. Yet, heterogeneity in protocols limits cross‐study comparability and clinical translation. Here, we review α‐synuclein SAA methods and their performance across various biological matrices.

Influence of Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag on the compressive strength and ductility of Ultra High-performance fibre reinforced cementitious composites

open access: yesCement, 2022
The mechanical properties of Ultra High Performance Fibre Reinforced Cementitious Composite (UHPFRCC) is basically influenced by the type of fibres and reactive binders used. Fibres primarily influence the ductility whereas reactive binders influence the

Mechanical Properties of Concrete and Mortar Containing Low Density Polyethylene Waste Particles as Fine Aggregate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Iraq industrial activities related to huge amounts of solid, non-biodegradable waste, waste low density Polyethylene (LDPE) plastic being among the well-known. So in this study, the scarped LDPE food boxes were transformed into fine particles and used as

Compressive strength of delaminated aerospace composites [PDF]

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2012
An efficient analytical model is described which predicts the value of compressive strain below which buckle-driven propagation of delaminations in aerospace composites will not occur. An extension of this efficient strip model which accounts for propagation transverse to the direction of applied compression is derived.
