Apparatus for measuring strength in biaxial compression

open access: yesReview of Scientific Instruments, 2022
Most measurements of compressive strength of ductile materials have involved Hopkinson–Kolsky bars or Taylor anvils placing samples in uniaxial compression. In these geometries, strain is limited by the tendency of the sample to petal, in analogy to necking in uniaxial tension.

Clinical Practice Guideline for Evaluation and Management of Peripheral Nervous System Manifestations in Sjögren's Disease

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Sjögren's disease is an autoimmune disorder that can impact multiple organ systems, including the peripheral nervous system (PNS). PNS manifestations, which can exist concurrently, include mononeuropathies, polyneuropathies, and autonomic nervous system neuropathies.

Does Long‐Term Lower Extremity Strength Training in Adults With Knee Osteoarthritis and Varus Alignment Reduce Knee Joint Loading During Gait?

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We examined whether 18 months of strength training in individuals with knee varus alignment and medial tibiofemoral osteoarthritis (OA) reduced knee joint loads during walking compared to an attention control group. Methods This study was a secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial that compared the effects of strength training to a ...

Experimental Study of the Compressive Strength of Multi-Coat Renders [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2017
Mortar compressive strength is a standard requirement and should be tested on stand-ardized specimens with a 40 mm square cross section. However, these specimens with only one type of mortar (base-coat layer) do not represent the render traditionally ap ...

Moderators of the Effects of Exercise and Manual Therapy for People With Knee and Hip Osteoarthritis: A Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective This study aimed to investigate potential moderators influencing the effects of manual therapy and exercise therapy on pain and functional outcomes in individuals with knee and/or hip osteoarthritis, using data from the MOA trial. This is a secondary analysis of data from the MOA trial that compares the clinical effectiveness of manual ...

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Study on the Characteristics of Composite Recycled Aggregate Concrete Based on Box–Behnken Design Response Surface Model

open access: yesFractal and Fractional, 2023
This study investigates the influence of recycled fine aggregates (RFA) and waste concrete powder (WCP) on the compressive strength of concrete. The response surface methodology is employed, considering three factors: the content of WCP, the water–cement
