Area preservation in computational fluid dynamics [PDF]
Incompressible two-dimensional flows such as the advection (Liouville) equation and the Euler equations have a large family of conservation laws related to conservation of area. We present two Eulerian numerical methods which preserve a discrete analog of area.

Data‐driven performance metrics for neural network learning
Summary Effectiveness of data‐driven neural learning in terms of both local mimima trapping and convergence rate is addressed. Such issues are investigated in a case study involving the training of one‐hidden‐layer feedforward neural networks with the extended Kalman filter, which reduces the search for the optimal network parameters to a state ...

Dynamics and Elastic Properties of Glassy Metastable States
By a molecular dynamics (MD) simulation method which ensures the system will be under hydrostatic pressure, dynamic and elastic properties of glassy metatstable states are investigated.

Exploring ice sheet model sensitivity to ocean thermal forcing and basal sliding using the Community Ice Sheet Model (CISM) [PDF]
Multi-meter sea level rise (SLR) is thought to be possible within the next few centuries, with most of the uncertainty originating from the Antarctic land ice contribution. One source of uncertainty relates to the ice sheet model initialization.

Metaphoric optical computing for fluid dynamics [PDF]
We present theoretical and numerical evidence to show that self-defocusing nonlinear optical propagation can be used to compute Euler fluid dynamics and possibly Navier-Stokes fluid dynamics. In particular, the formation of twin vortices and the K rm n vortex street behind an obstacle, two well-known viscous fluid phenomena, is numerically ...

CFD/RBD Numerical Simulation Research on the Process of Buried Aviation Weapon Launch [PDF]
Because of its special configuration, the flying wing layout aircraft shows a big difference in performance from conventional aircraft. Embedded weapon cabin can help fighters improve stealth performance, but the door interference and the flow under the ...

There has been a concern that the accurate numerical simulation of multi-body flow, which is caused by the multiple disintegrations of expired spacecraft re-entering into the near space, has a critical bottleneck impact on the falling area of the ...
