Guest Editorial: Nonlinear Optimization of Communication Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Linear programming and other classical optimization techniques have found important applications in communication systems for many decades. Recently, there has been a surge in research activities that utilize the latest developments in nonlinear ...

Resonating Valence Bond wave function: from lattice models to realistic systems

open access: yes, 2004
Although mean field theories have been very successful to predict a wide range of properties for solids, the discovery of high temperature superconductivity in cuprates supported the idea that strongly correlated materials cannot be qualitatively ...

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Model Creation and Equivalence Proofs of Cellular Automata and Artificial Neural Networks

open access: yes, 2020
Computational methods and mathematical models have invaded arguably every scientific discipline forming its own field of research called computational science. Mathematical models are the theoretical foundation of computational science.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

New methods for the computation of the linear response within the density functional theory in spin polarized system (Metodi innovativi per il calcolo della risposta lineare in density functional theory per sistemi spin polarizzati)

open access: yes, 2012
In the present thesis we study absorption spectra of spin polarized isolated systems. Thus we introduce the density functional theory (DFT) formalism and its time dependent extension (TDDFT) together with the approximation used. In particula the Casida formulation of TDDFT is described.

Comparison of Two Algebraic Methods for Curve/curve Intersection [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
Most geometric modeling systems use either polynomial or rational functions to represent geometry. In such systems most computational problems can be formulated as systems of polynomials in one or more variables.

Exponential-Krylov methods for ordinary differential equations

open access: yes, 2014
This paper develops a new class of exponential-type integrators where all the matrix exponentiations are performed in a single Krylov space of low dimension.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.
