Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Justification of the choice of the model of rock mass destruction by explosion in the ANSYS AUTODYN software environment

open access: yesТехнічна інженерія
The paper presents the results of research on the selection of the model of rock massif destruction by explosion of a borehole charge in ANSYS environment with the use of the program complex of engineering analysis AUTODYN, as well as the calculation of ...

Improving PARP inhibitor efficacy in bladder cancer without genetic BRCAness by combination with PLX51107

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

A Computational Model for Epidural Electrical Stimulation of Spinal Sensorimotor Circuits

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience, 2013
Epidural electrical stimulation (EES) of lumbosacral segments can restore a range of movements after spinal cord injury. However, the mechanisms and neural structures through which EES facilitates movement execution remain unclear.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

The Nature of Computational Models

open access: yesComputing in Science & Engineering, 2023
Computational models lie at the heart of computational science. And yet, few scientists have a clear idea of what a computational model actually is. Is it software? Or an algorithm? How does it relate to mathematical models? What are suitable languages or notations for expressing a computational model in the literature?

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Keep focussing: striatal dopamine multiple functions resolved in a single mechanism tested in a simulated humanoid robot

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2014
The effects of striatal dopamine (DA) on behavior have been widely investigated over the past decades, with ``phasic'' burst firings considered as the key expression of a reward prediction error responsible for reinforcement learning.

Sculpting Computational‐Level Models [PDF]

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, 2017
AbstractIn this commentary, I advocate for strict relations between Marr's levels of analysis. Under a strict relationship, each level is exactly implemented by the subordinate level. This yields two benefits. First, it brings consistency for multilevel explanations.
