Computational models of neurophysiological correlates of tinnitus

open access: yesFrontiers in Systems Neuroscience, 2012
The understanding of tinnitus has progressed considerably in the past decade, but the details of the mechanisms that give rise to this phantom perception of sound without a corresponding acoustic stimulus have not been pinpointed yet.

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

Computational Models of Attention

open access: yes, 2014
This chapter reviews recent computational models of visual attention. We begin with models for the bottom-up or stimulus-driven guidance of attention to salient visual items, which we examine in seven different broad categories. We then examine more complex models which address the top-down or goal-oriented guidance of attention towards items that are ...

Development and validation of a computational model of the knee joint for the evaluation of surgical treatments for osteoarthritis

open access: yesComputer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering, 2014
A three-dimensional (3D) knee joint computational model was developed and validated to predict knee joint contact forces and pressures for different degrees of malalignment.

(Mal)adaptive Mentalizing in the Cognitive Hierarchy, and Its Link to Paranoia

open access: yesComputational Psychiatry
Humans need to be on their toes when interacting with competitive others to avoid being taken advantage of. Too much caution out of context can, however, be detrimental and produce false beliefs of intended harm.

Detecting Global form: separate processes required for Glass and Radial Frequency patterns.

open access: yesFrontiers in Computational Neuroscience, 2013
Global processing of form information has been studied extensively using both Glass and radial frequency patterns. Models, with common early stages, have been proposed for the detection of properties of both pattern types but human performance has not ...

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.

Boundary Element Method Solution of a Fractional Bioheat Equation for Memory-Driven Heat Transfer in Biological Tissues

open access: yesFractal and Fractional
This work develops a Boundary Element Method (BEM) formulation for simulating bioheat transfer in perfused biological tissues using the Atangana–Baleanu fractional derivative in the Caputo sense (ABC).

Modelling Alzheimer’s disease: from past to future

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2013
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is emerging as the most prevalent and socially disruptive illness of aging populations, as more people live long enough to become affected. Although AD is placing a considerable and increasing burden on society, it represents the

When, why and how tumour clonal diversity predicts survival

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, 2020
The utility of intratumour heterogeneity as a prognostic biomarker is the subject of ongoing clinical investigation. However, the relationship between this marker and its clinical impact is mediated by an evolutionary process that is not well understood.
