Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Disassortativity of computer networks [PDF]

open access: yes2016 IEEE Conference on Intelligence and Security Informatics (ISI), 2016
Network data is ubiquitous in cyber-security applications. Accurately modelling such data allows discovery of anomalous edges, subgraphs or paths, and is key to many signature-free cyber-security analytics. We present a recurring property of graphs originating from cyber-security applications, often considered a ‘corner case’ in the main literature on ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

AKTUALIZACJA ROZPROSZONEJ BAZY WIEDZY SYSTEMU ERGATYCZNEGO ZA POMOCĄ METODY KLASYFIKACJI ROZMYTEJ

open access: yesInformatyka, Automatyka, Pomiary w Gospodarce i Ochronie Środowiska, 2014
W pracy zaproponowano metodę aktualizacji rozproszonej bazy wiedzy systemu ergatycznego (system maszyna-człowiek) używając rozmytej klasyfikacji. Rozważono przykłady formułowania zapytań, wybór alternatywnych decyzji z bazy wiedzy, zgodnie z wartościami ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
