MEDIATE: multi-faceted implementation of a mixed software/hardware-based zero trust framework for the computing continuum

open access: yes
International audienceThis paper introduces MEDIATE, a framework that brings zero trust principles to the Cloud-Edge-IoT Computing Continuum. MEDIATE integrates several software-based security and policy services operating at the cloud and edge layers ...

Scalable and Distributed Cloud Continuum Orchestration for Next-Generation IoT Applications: Latest Advances and Prospects—2nd Edition

open access: yesFuture Internet
With the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT), the centralized cloud computing service delivery paradigm has been gradually transformed into a cloud continuum that includes edge and fog computing and heterogeneous IoT devices with varying computing and

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Hadronic light-by-light contribution to $$(g-2)_\mu $$ ( g - 2 ) μ from lattice QCD with SU(3) flavor symmetry

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2020
We perform a lattice QCD calculation of the hadronic light-by-light contribution to $$(g-2)_\mu $$ ( g - 2 ) μ at the SU(3) flavor-symmetric point $$m_\pi =m_K\simeq 420\,$$ m π = m K ≃ 420 MeV.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Matrix integrals & finite holography

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2021
We explore the conjectured duality between a class of large N matrix integrals, known as multicritical matrix integrals (MMI), and the series (2m − 1, 2) of non-unitary minimal models on a fluctuating background.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...
