LEAST SQUARES APPROXIMATIONS OF MEASURES VIA GEOMETRIC CONDITION NUMBERS [PDF]

open access: yesMathematika, 2011
For a probability measure on a real separable Hilbert space, we are interested in "volume-based" approximations of the d-dimensional least squares error of it, i.e., least squares error with respect to a best fit d-dimensional affine subspace. Such approximations are given by averaging real-valued multivariate functions which are typically scalings of ...

A Generative Neuro‐Symbolic AI for Protein Sequence Design

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We introduce EffieDes, a neuro‐symbolic framework coupling deep learning‐based fitness landscape parameterization with exact automated reasoning. Unlike greedy sampling, EffieDes identifies sequences that globally optimize fitness while satisfying intricate design constraints.

Empirical Likelihood Statistical Inference for the BINAR(1) Process

open access: yesMathematics
In this paper, we apply the empirical likelihood (EL) approach to the bivariate first-order integer-valued autoregressive (BINAR(1)) model. The maximum empirical likelihood (MEL) estimator for this process is constructed by the empirical likelihood ratio

Investment Risk Measurement Based on Quantiles and Expectiles

open access: yesActa Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Oeconomica, 2018
In the presented research, we attempt to examine special investment risk measurement. We use quantile regression as a model by describing more general properties of the response distribution.

Low Latency Global Carbon Budget Reveals Late 2024 Carbon Losses and Contrasting Early 2025 Land Sink Recovery Signals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Low latency carbon budget estimates for July 2024–June 2025 combine atmospheric CO2 growth rates, fossil emissions, ocean uptake, DGVM land fluxes, and OCO‐2 inversions. The budget shows that late‐2024 land carbon losses dominate the annual anomaly, while early‐2025 recovery differs between bottom‐up models and top‐down inversions, especially in ...

On the symmetric transformation with geometric constraints

open access: yesGeo-spatial Information Science
Coordinate transformation is a fundamental issue in the related studies of measurement. However, existing methodologies often need to pay more attention to the available spatial information, leading to suboptimal results.

Effects of ill-conditioned data on least squares adaptive filters [PDF]

open access: yesICASSP-88., International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2003
Sensitivity results are presented for the LS weight vector of an all-zero adaptive equalizer in an ill-conditioned signal environment. The ill-conditioned data results from severe amplitude distortion introduced by the data channel. Specifically, a theoretical upper bound for the relative change in the magnitude of the weight vector due to additive ...

Tau Aggregate Imaging and Transcriptomics of Alzheimer's Disease Brain at Different Stages of Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The protein aggregates and gene expression in the middle temporal gyrus (MTG) and somatosensory cortex (SOM) of the postmortem brains of 13 Alzheimer's disease patients were studied in detail, revealing that small hyperphosphorylated tau aggregates increase with Braak stage driven by microglial inflammation.

Alpha–beta-power family of distributions with applications to exponential distribution

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal
This article proposes a new way to increase the flexibility of a family of statistical distributions by adding two additional parameters. The newly proposed family is called the alpha–beta power transformation family of distributions.

Asymptotics of Least Trimmed Squares Regression [PDF]

open access: yes
High breakdown-point regression estimators protect against large errors both in explanatory and dependent variables. The least trimmed squares (LTS) estimator is one of frequently used, easily understandable, and thoroughly studied (from the robustness ...
