Embedded Attitudes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This paper presents a puzzle involving embedded attitude reports. We resolve the puzzle by arguing that attitude verbs take restricted readings: in some environments the denotation of attitude verbs can be restricted by a given proposition.

2D Nanomaterials Toward Function‐Ready Superlubricity in Advanced Microsystems

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A unified framework links structural and transformation superlubricity with microsystem functions and deployment requirements. Mechanisms, device architectures, integration strategies, AI‐guided discovery, and benchmarking protocols are connected to define function‐ready superlubricity in advanced microsystems.

Import‐Export and ‘And’ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Import-Export says that a conditional 'If p, if q, r' is always equivalent to the conditional 'If p and q, r'. I argue that Import-Export does not sit well with a classical approach to conjunction: given some plausible and widely accepted principles ...

Logical Form, Conditionals, Pseudo-Conditionals

open access: yesLogic and Logical Philosophy
This paper raises some questions about the formalization of sentences containing ‘if’ or similar expressions. In particular, it focuses on three kinds of sentences that resemble conditionals in some respects but exhibit distinctive logical features that deserve separate consideration: whether-or-not sentences, biscuit conditionals, and concessive ...

Pattern Formation in Non‐Equilibrium Architected Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This article demonstrates an artificial mechanical system ‐ a robotic metamaterial ‐ as an accessible and versatile platform within which to explore and prescribe the reaction‐diffusion driven pattern formation hitherto associated with comparatively less accessible and versatile non‐equilibrium biological and chemical systems.

HOW TO TEACH CONDITIONALS IN AN ESP ECONOMICS COURSE?

open access: yesMetodički Vidici, 2012
In this paper we deal with the teaching and the adoption of conditionals in an ESP economics course. Firstly, a brief account of genre analysis is given, a theoretical and methodological model suitable for teaching English for specific purposes in such a

MODUS PONENS AND MODUS TOLLENS: THEIR VALIDITY/INVALIDITY IN NATURAL LANGUAGE ARGUMENTS

open access: yesStudies in Logic, Grammar and Rhetoric, 2017
The precedent studies on the validity of Modus ponens and Modus tollens have been carried out with most regard to a major type of conditionals in which the conditional clause is a sufficient condition for the main clause.

In Situ Copper Electroplating Turns Material Extrusion 3D Printers Into Metal–Polymer Hybrid Fabricators

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
An in situ electroplating approach for MEX 3D printing is proposed, enabling copper deposition during the fabrication of conductive polymers. The method combines a printer‐integrated plating head, ML‐based g‐code control, and stop‐and‐go printing, achieving near‐bulk copper conductivity and enabling fully embedded, assembly‐free electronic components ...

Subjunctive Conditionals are Material [PDF]

open access: yes
The material account claims that indicative conditionals are material. However, the conventional wisdom even among material account enthusiasts is that the material account cannot be extended to subjunctive conditionals.

"If Oswald had not killed Kennedy" – Spohn on Counterfactuals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Wolfgang Spohn's theory of ranking functions is an elegant and powerful theory of the structure and dynamics of doxastic states. In two recent papers, Spohn has applied it to the analysis of conditionals, claiming to have presented a unified account of ...
