Eigenvalues and Condition Numbers of Random Matrices [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications, 1988
Let X be a random matrix whose entries are independent standard normal random variables. Denote by \(\kappa =\| X\| \| X^{-1}\|\) its condition number in the 2-norm. The author presents a proof that for real \(n\times n\) matrices \(E(\log \kappa)\approx \log n+1.537\) and for complex matrices \(E(\log \kappa)\approx \log n+0.982\) as \(n\to \infty ...

Conditioning analysis of block incomplete factorization and its application to elliptic equations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The paper deals with eigenvalue estimates for block incomplete fac- torization methods for symmetric matrices. First, some previous results on upper bounds for the maximum eigenvalue of preconditioned matrices are generalized to each eigenvalue.

Path-Wise Attention Memory Network for Visual Question Answering

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
Visual question answering (VQA) is regarded as a multi-modal fine-grained feature fusion task, which requires the construction of multi-level and omnidirectional relations between nodes.

Advancing Text-to-Image Generation: A Comparative Study of StyleGAN-T and Stable Diffusion 3 under Neutrosophic Sets [PDF]

open access: yesNeutrosophic Sets and Systems
Recent advances in generative models have revolutionized the technology employed for image synthesis quite significantly, and two paradigms—GANs and diffusion-based models—are leading the pack of innovation.

Chebfun Solutions to a Class of 1D Singular and Nonlinear Boundary Value Problems

open access: yesComputation, 2022
The Chebyshev collocation method implemented in Chebfun is used in order to solve a class of second order one-dimensional singular and genuinely nonlinear boundary value problems.

Approximation of linear one dimensional partial differential equations including fractional derivative with non-singular kernel

open access: yesAdvances in Difference Equations, 2021
In this article we propose a hybrid method based on a local meshless method and the Laplace transform for approximating the solution of linear one dimensional partial differential equations in the sense of the Caputo–Fabrizio fractional derivative.

Singular-Value-Decomposition-Based Matrix Surgery

open access: yesEntropy
This paper is motivated by the need to stabilise the impact of deep learning (DL) training for medical image analysis on the conditioning of convolution filters in relation to model overfitting and robustness.

Condition numbers of Hessenberg companion matrices

open access: yesCzechoslovak Mathematical Journal
The Fiedler matrices are a large class of companion matrices that include the well-known Frobenius companion matrix. The Fiedler matrices are part of a larger class of companion matrices that can be characterized with a Hessenberg form. In this paper, we demonstrate that the Hessenberg form of the Fiedler companion matrices provides a straight-forward ...

Spectral condition‐number estimation of large sparse matrices

open access: yesNumerical Linear Algebra with Applications, 2019
SummaryWe describe a randomized Krylov‐subspace method for estimating the spectral condition number of a real matrix A or indicating that it is numerically rank deficient. The main difficulty in estimating the condition number is the estimation of the smallest singular value of A.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.
