Interference Blockade in the Conductance of Organic Molecules

open access: yes, 2002
The conductance of {\em cis/trans} isomers of stilbene molecules connected to armchair single wall carbon nanotubes is studied in the Landauer formalism combined with a density-functional based approach. For a given arrangement of the electrodes, dramatic differences in the transmission between both isomers are found.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Demo 23-11 Double Slit Interference

open access: yes, 2001
Double slit interference is illustrated using laser light and three sets of double slits with spacing of 0.62 mm, 0.26 mm, and 0.09 mm respectively, using the geometrical arrangement shown in Figure 1. The interference pattern is spread apart more when

Electromagnetic interference schielding with conductive papers.

open access: yesJAPAN TAPPI JOURNAL, 1988
The topics of conductive papers and their electromagnetic shielding effectiveness have been reviewed briefly. To evaluate the potential shielding effectiveness of conductive fillers, such as stainless steel fiber, glass and synthetic fibers which are electrolessly plated with nickel and copper, conductive papers were made by using their fillers with ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...
