CONFINEMENT AND LIBERATION [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This is a review of topics which haunted me for the last 40 years, starting with spontaneous symmetry breaking and ending with gauge/string/space-time correspondence. While the first part of this article is mostly historical, the second contains some comments, opinions and conjectures which are new. This work is prepared for the volume " Fifty Years of

B cell mechanobiology in health and disease: emerging techniques and insights into therapeutic responses

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
B cells sense external mechanical forces and convert them into biochemical signals through mechanotransduction. Understanding how malignant B cells respond to physical stimuli represents a groundbreaking area of research. This review examines the key mechano‐related molecules and pathways in B lymphocytes, highlights the most relevant techniques to ...

P‐glycoprotein modulates the fluidity gradient of the plasma membrane of multidrug resistant CHO cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
To explore the impact of the overexpression of the multidrug‐transporter P‐glycoprotein (ABCB1) on membrane fluidity, we compared the transversal gradient of mobility and microviscosity in plasma membranes of drug‐sensitive Chinese hamster ovary cells (AuxB1) and their multidrug‐resistant derivatives (B30) using the fluorescent n‐(9‐anthroyloxy) fatty ...

Temperament Trait Changes in Japanese Black Cows Under Grazing and Confined Conditions

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2021
The objective of the present study was to reveal the effects of grazing on the temperament traits of cows. Nine Japanese Black cows [344 ± 32 kg body weight (BW), 7.7 ± 3.0 year of age], which had various experiences, such as tethering, handling, and ...

Circulating tumor cells in metastatic breast cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors – a biomarker analysis of the ALICE and ICON trials

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative biomarker analysis, we assessed serial sampling of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) with CellSearch in two randomized trials testing immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in metastatic breast cancer. Our data demonstrate a prognostic potential of CTCs, most apparent 4 weeks into ICI therapy.

MHD simulation on magnetic compression of field reversed configurations with NIMROD

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
Magnetic compression has long been proposed a promising method for plasma heating in a field reversed configuration (FRC). However, it remains a challenge to fully understand the physical mechanisms underlying the compression process, due to its highly ...

Integrative analysis of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and exosomes from small‐cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients: a comprehensive approach

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study simultaneously investigated circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and exosomes from small‐cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients. The elevated expression of JUNB and CXCR4 in CTCs was a poor prognostic factor for SCLC patients, whereas exosomal overexpression of these biomarkers revealed a high discrimination ability of patients from healthy individuals,

Numerical Analysis of Charged Particles Transport in Air Based on Vortex Rings

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Charged particles are widely used in the fields of defogging, haze removal and artificial rainfall. A novel transport strategy of charged particles based on the vortex rings is presented in this paper, to expand the effective action region and enhance ...
