Cell viability within oral biofilms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Bacteria are not distributed homogenously throughout an oral biofilm. This is primarily due to regions of differing environmental conditions, themselves a manifestation of nutrient, gaseous and ionic concentration gradients within the biofilm.

Doxorubicin‐Loaded Metal–Organic Framework for Ferroptosis‐Enhanced Chemotherapy Through Sustained Zn Release and Glutathione Peroxidase Downregulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A robust zinc‐based metal–organic framework (ZnMOF) enables dual functions of doxorubicin delivery and sustained Zn2+ release to trigger ferroptosis‐enhnaced chemotherapy. DOX@ZnMOF effectively depletes intracellular glutathione, suppresses GPX4, and elevates reactive oxygen species, leading to efficient oxidative DNA damage and apoptosis.

The Application of Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy in Investigating the Correlation between Microstructure and Function in Whole Grain Foods

open access: yesLiang you shipin ke-ji
Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM),through the use of fluorescent probes for labeling, enables the visualization of the spatial distribution of components in whole grain foods and the in situ characterization of their microstructure, and has ...

Development of a method for the measurement of primary cilia length in 3D [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: Primary cilia length is an important measure of cell and tissue function. While accurate length measurements can be calculated from cells in 2D culture, measurements in tissue or 3D culture are inherently difficult due to optical distortions.

Organelle Localization‐Induced Bio‐Orthogonal Polymerization (OLIBOP) for Photostable Super‐Resolution Live‐Cell Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Organelle localization‐induced biorthogonal polymerization enables direct synthesis of photostable poly‐AIEgens within targeted organelles for super‐resolution live‐cell imaging. ABSTRACT Real‐time monitoring of dynamic biological processes demands fluorescent probes that can withstand prolonged light exposure without photobleaching—a critical ...

Three‐Dimensional Ovary Model to Improve and Study Murine Follicle Growth

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
To develop new methods for fertility preservation in women, novel culture systems for small follicles need to be established. In this work, a poly(ethylene glycol) based scaffold, with appropriate mechanical and bioactive features to support mouse follicle and ovary cell growth is developed, and the formed cell‐follicle interactions are visualized ...

Ultrablack color in velvet ant cuticle

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology
We studied the ultrastructure of the ultrablack cuticle in Traumatomutilla bifurca, an enigmatic and visually striking species of velvet ants (Hymenoptera, Mutillidae).

siRNA Delivery via Cross‐Linked Gelatin Microparticles Enables Targeted Modulation of Osteogenic‐Vascular Cross‐Talk: An Advanced Human 3D in Vitro Test System for Therapeutic siRNA

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Osteogenic‐angiogenic cross‐talk is a vital prerequisite for vascularized bone regeneration. In this study, we investigated the effects of siRNA‐mediated silencing of two inhibitory proteins, Chordin and WWP‐1, via CaP‐NP‐loaded gelatin microparticles in osteogenically differentiated microtissues.

Reconstruction and regularization approaches for photon-resolved image scanning microscopy [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
Fast, sensitive detector arrays make Image Scanning Microscopy (ISM) a natural successor to confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), enabling super-resolution (SR) with excellent signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).
