Health Care Use Among Patients Presenting to Emergency Department for Gout Flares in Ontario, Canada: A Population‐Based Health Systems Analysis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We characterized emergency department (ED) gout visits and identified patient characteristics and health services patterns contributing to ED presentations. Methods We conducted a population‐based study of ED gout visits in Ontario, Canada, between 2014 and 2023.

Constant Congestion Brambles

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2022
A bramble in an undirected graph $G$ is a family of connected subgraphs of $G$ such that for every two subgraphs $H_1$ and $H_2$ in the bramble either $V(H_1) \cap V(H_2) \neq \emptyset$ or there is an edge of $G$ with one endpoint in $V(H_1)$ and the second endpoint in $V(H_2)$.

A third drop level for TCP-RED congestion control strategy

open access: yes, 2011
This work presents the Risk Threshold RED (RTRED) congestion control strategy for TCP networks. In addition to the maximum and minimum thresholds in existing RED-based strategies, we add a third dropping level.

Distinct Systemic Sclerosis Phenotypes Related to Ethnicity: An Opportunity to Personalize Care?

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The objective is to describe and compare demographic, clinical, and serological characteristics of patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) according to ethnic background. Methods Participants enrolled in the Canadian Scleroderma Research Group cohort who self‐identified to a single ethnicity group were included.

Transport congestion events detection (TCED): towards decorrelating congestion detection from TCP [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) uses a loss-based algorithm to estimate whether the network is congested or not. The main difficulty for this algorithm is to distinguish spurious from real network congestion events.

Performance of Active Multicast Congestion Control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
This paper aims to provide insight into the behavior of congestion control mechanisms for reliable multicast protocols. A multicast congestion control based on active networks has been proposed and simulated using ns-2 over a network topology obtained ...

Fast Charge–Discharge of LiNi0.9Co0.05Mn0.05 Enabled by a Bikitaite‐Infused Separator for Li Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bikitaite‐infused cellulose separator is introduced for Li metal batteries, leveraging bikitaite zeolite's ion‐conductive properties to regulate Li+‐ion flux and suppress dendrite growth. The membrane design ensures uniform Li plating, enhanced electrolyte wettability, and robust thermal/mechanical stability, delivering stable performance and low ...

ECN verbose mode: a statistical method for network path congestion estimation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This article introduces a simple and effective methodology to determine the level of congestion in a network with an ECN-like marking scheme. The purpose of the ECN bit is to notify TCP sources of an imminent congestion in order to react before losses ...

Infusible Extracellular Matrix Biomaterial Enhances Cell‐Specific Pro‐Repair Responses Following Acute Myocardial Infarction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We measure the cell‐specific responses of administering infusible ECM (iECM) in acute myocardial infarction (MI) across multiple timepoints. Using single‐nucleus RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics, we measure macrophage activation, fibroblast remodeling, increased vascular development, lymphangiogenesis, cardioprotection, and neurogenesis ...

Diuretic treatment in chronic heart failure [PDF]

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Medical Practice, 2016
Heart failure is a major public health problem in developed countries. Many of the clinical manifestations of heart failure are due to congestion and fluid retention, therefore diuretic therapy occupied for a long time an important place in the ...
