The evaluation of the conjugate function of a periodic spline on a uniform mesh

open access: yes, 1986
We present an O(N log N) algorithm for the simultaneous evaluation (at all N points of a uniform mesh) of a function conjugate to a periodic spline. The algorithm is based on the attenuation factor theory and makes use of the FFT.

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

To conjugate or not to conjugate? evaluating the potential use of cell-penetrating peptides for conjugation or complexation with oligonucleotides by surface plasmon resonance

open access: yesInternational Journal of Pharmaceutics
Oligonucleotides represent a class of molecules that exhibit remarkable therapeutic potential due to their unparalleled target specificity, yet they suffer from limited cellular uptake and lack of tissue selectivity. Extensive research is conducted with cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) as delivery excipients due to their ability to translocate across ...

Synthesis and Toxicological Evaluation of a Chitosan‑l‑Leucine Conjugate for Pulmonary Drug Delivery Applications

open access: yes, 2016
Herein are reported the synthesis of a conjugate of chitosan with l-leucine, the preparation of nanoparticles from both chitosan and the conjugate for use in pulmonary drug delivery, and the in vitro evaluation of toxicity and inflammatory effects of ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Design, Synthesis, and Antibacterial Evaluation of Rifampicin–Siderophore Conjugates

open access: yesACS Infectious Diseases
The growing concern over antibiotic resistance has sparked increased attention toward developing alternative antibiotic strategies. One promising approach, known as the "Trojan horse" strategy, involves the use of siderophores to hijack bacteria's iron transport systems as a way of delivering antibiotics inside the bacterial cell.
