LC3 conjugation system in mammalian autophagy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, 2004
Autophagy is the bulk degradation of proteins and organelles, a process essential for cellular maintenance, cell viability, differentiation and development in mammals.

Estimating plasmid conjugation rates: a new computational tool and a critical comparison of methods

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2020
Plasmids are important vectors for the spread of genes among diverse populations of bacteria. However, there is no standard method to determine the rate at which they spread horizontally via conjugation.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Covalent cell surface conjugation of nanoparticles by a combination of metabolic labelling and click chemistry.

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, 2020
Conjugation of nanoparticles (NP) to the surface of living cells is of interest in the context of exploiting the tissue homing properties of ex vivo engineered T cells for tumor targeted delivery of drugs loaded into NP. Cell surface conjugation requires

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Maillard reaction-based conjugation of pea protein and prebiotic (polydextrose): optimization, characterization, and functional properties enhancement

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems
There is a growing demand for plant-based protein ingredients with improved functionality for use in diverse food and nutraceutical applications.

Synthesis and Evaluation of a Chitosan Oligosaccharide-Streptomycin Conjugate against Pseudomonas aeruginosa Biofilms

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2019
Microbial biofilms are considerably more resistant to antibiotics than planktonic cells. It has been reported that chitosan coupling with the aminoglycoside antibiotic streptomycin dramatically disrupted biofilms of several Gram-positive bacteria.

A Fermionic Hodge Star Operator

open access: yes, 1998
A fermionic analogue of the Hodge star operation is shown to have an explicit operator representation in models with fermions, in spacetimes of any dimension. This operator realizes a conjugation (pairing) not used explicitly in field-theory, and induces

Conjugate Jacobi Series and Conjugate Functions

open access: yesJournal of Approximation Theory, 1996
The starting point is the notion of conjugacy on a Euclidean \(n\)-space as defined by \textit{E. M. Stein} and \textit{G. Weiss} [Acta Math. 103, 25-62 (1962; Zbl 0097.28501)]. Conjugate Jacobi series is introduced in the sense that the Jacobi harmonic function and the conjugate harmonic function (indicated in the title) satisfy the generalized Cauchy-

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
