On semantic agreement

open access: yesFrontiers in Language Sciences
We discuss semantic agreement, cases in which agreement between a head and a DP seems to drive, or be driven by, interpretive properties of this DP rather than its syntactic properties.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Partitives and Partitivity

open access: yesGlossa, 2019
The paper offers a broad overview of several structures that fall under the umbrella term of “partitives”. It surveys previous analyses and proposes a treatment based on two null operators, PART% and PARTPRO, with different syntactic and semantic ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

'Mits': oud en stout : een nieuw leven voor voorwaardelijk 'mits'

open access: yesBrünner Beiträge zur Germanistik und Nordistik, 2016
The old and rather neglected, archaic, formal Dutch word 'mits' (English: 'if and only if') started of as a preposition, evolved in current Dutch to a conjunction, whereas the use as a conditional preposition (quite normal in Belgium) is frowned upon. In

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...
