Perturbational complexity index in assessing responsiveness to rTMS treatment in patients with disorders of consciousness: a cross-over randomized controlled trial study

open access: yesJournal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation
Background Disorders of Consciousness (DoC) caused by severe brain injuries represent a challenging clinical entity, which is easy to misdiagnosis and lacks effective treatment options.

The etiologies of altered level of consciousness in the emergency department [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neurocritical Care, 2020
Background New-onset altered level of consciousness (ALC) is a common condition in patients visiting the emergency department (ED). We evaluated the clinical characteristics, causes, and prognosis of adult patients presenting with ALC at an ED of a ...

Update on neuroimaging in disorders of consciousness

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Neurology, 2021
Purpose of review Neuroimaging has acquired a prominent place in the assessment of disorders of consciousness (DoC). Rapidly evolving technologies combined with state-of-the-art data analyses open new horizons to probe brain activity, but selecting ...

Therapeutic Apheresis in Nigeria: A Multi‐Center Summary of Abstracts From the Inaugural Nigerian Society for Apheresis Scientific Meeting

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

cEEG and rEEG detection rates of prognostic indicators in cardiac arrest patients: a systematic review and diagnostic meta-analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology
IntroductionAccurate neuroprognostication following cardiac arrest is essential for clinical decision-making; however, the comparative diagnostic performance of continuous electroencephalography (cEEG) and routine electroencephalography (rEEG) remains ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

EEG hemispheric asymmetry and behavioral responsiveness following rTMS in unresponsive wakefulness syndrome: an exploratory study

open access: yesJournal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation
Background Hemispheric asymmetry is a fundamental feature of large-scale brain organization, yet its relevance to disorders of consciousness (DOC) and its modulation following repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) remain insufficiently ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
