Constant Mean Curvature Surfaces with Cylindrical Ends [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
R. Schoen has asked whether the sphere and the cylinder are the only complete (almost) embedded constant mean curvature surfaces with finite absolute total curvature. We propose an infinite family of such surfaces. The existence of examples of this kind is supported by results of computer experiments we carried out using an algorithm developed by ...

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Radiographic performance depends on the radial glenohumeral mismatch in total shoulder arthroplasty

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2020
Background Optimal radii of curvature of the articulating surfaces of the prosthetic components are factors associated with the longevity of cemented glenoid components in anatomical total shoulder arthroplasty.

Optimizing photoexcitation conditions for time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering experiments

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering (TR‐XSS) is a powerful technique to visualize how proteins change their structure in real time after light activation. Selecting the right laser photoexcitation conditions—fluence, excitation geometry, and sample refresh rate—is critical to maximize the experimental signal while avoiding unwanted side effects ...

Willmore-Like Tori in Killing Submersions

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematical Physics, 2018
The first variation formula and Euler-Lagrange equations for Willmore-like surfaces in Riemannian 3-spaces with potential are computed and, then, applied to the study of invariant Willmore-like tori with invariant potential in the total space of a ...

Surfaces with constant mean curvature in Sol geometry

open access: yesDifferential Geometry and its Applications, 2011
Surfaces with constant mean curvature in Sol geometry are considered. The CMC surfaces which are invariant by translation of \(\text{Sol}_3\) are classified. -- As a special case, minimal surfaces invariant under translations in \(\text{Sol}_3\) are described.

Structural studies and functional engineering of NanX: an anhydro‐sialic acid transporter from Escherichia coli

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biophysical characterisation shows that NanX, a membrane transport protein from the major facilitator superfamily (MFS), forms both monomers and dimers after purification. AlphaFold modelling and substrate docking provide information on residues likely involved in substrate recognition for NanX and another MFS member, NanT.

Totally real submanifolds of the nearly kaehler 6-sphere [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Totally real 3-dimensiunal submanifolds of the nearly Kaehler 6-sphere are the main topic of this thesis. Having introduced preliminaries on the theory of complex and almost complex manifolds, the nearly Kaehler structure of S(^6) and the non existence ...

Global Properties of Constant Mean Curvature Surfaces in H^2xR [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We discuss some aspects of the global behavior of surfaces in H^2xR with constant mean curvature H ( known as H-surfaces). We prove a maximum principle at infinity for complete properly embedded H-surfaces with H > 1/sqrt(2), and show that the genus of a

Surfaces in E3 invariant under a one parameter group of isometries of E3

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2000
We develop a convenient surface theory in E³ in order to apply it to the class of the surfaces invariant under a one-parameter group of isometries of E³.
