Interpretation and modeling of the averaged equations for a fluid-solid flow [PDF]

open access: yes
A self-consistent derivation of the conservation laws is given for flows of a fluid-solid mixture. A unified analytical framework for obtaining constitutive relations is provided.

The Renal Activity Index for Lupus Identifies Active Renal Disease and Treatment Response in Adult Patients With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Lupus Nephritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We evaluated the ability of the Renal Activity Index for Lupus (RAIL) to discriminate active lupus nephritis (LN) in adult patients with active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and differentiate LN treatment response. Methods Urine samples from adults with biopsy‐proven active class III and IV LN from TULIP‐LN (active LN group ...

An energy residual-based approach to gradient effects within the mechanics of generalized continua

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanical Behavior of Materials, 2012
Generalized continua exhibiting gradient effects are addressed through a method grounded on the energy residual (ER)-based gradient theory by the first author and coworkers.

Electrically controlled Bragg resonances of an ambichiral electro-optic structure: oblique incidence

open access: yes, 2007
The Pockels effect can increase the effective birefringence of ambichiral, electro--optic rejection filters made of materials with a $\bar{4}2m$ point group symmetry, when a dc electric field is applied parallel to the axis of nonhomogeneity.

An Adaptive Human Pilot Model With Reaction Time Delay for Enhanced Adaptive Control in Piloted Systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This work introduces an adaptive human pilot model that captures pilot time‐delay effects in adaptive control systems. The model enables the prediction of pilot–controller interactions, facilitating safer integration and improved design of adaptive controllers for piloted applications.

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Application of elasto-viscoplastic Bodner-Partom constitutive equations in finite element analysis

open access: yesComputer Assisted Methods in Engineering and Science, 2022
A finite element implementation of the unified elasto-viscoplastic theory of Bodner-Partom for non-linear analysis is investigated in detail. Description of the Bodner-Partom constitutive equations is presented .

A unified creep-plasticity model suitable for thermo-mechanical loading [PDF]

open access: yes
An experimentally based unified creep-plasticity constitutive model was implemented for 1070 steel. Accurate rate and temperature effects were obtained for isothermal and thermo-mechanical loading by incorporating deformation mechanisms into the ...

Is Young's Modulus a Critical Coating Property Determining Fouling‐Release Performance of Marine Coatings?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The release of foulers from protective marine coatings is determined by several interrelated material properties, including the strength of Young's modulus, the flexibility of chain segments, the surface free energy, and the magnitude of hydrodynamic stress.
