Characterizing food environments of hospitals and long-term care facilities in the Netherlands: a mixed methods approach

open access: yesBMC Health Services Research
Background Hospitals and long-term care facilities, which are key institutions to serve health and well-being, have an important exemplary role in providing supportive food environments to encourage healthy and sustainable food choices.

The epidemiology of carbapenem-non-susceptible Acinetobacter species in Europe: analysis of EARS-Net data from 2013 to 2017

open access: yesAntimicrobial Resistance and Infection Control, 2020
Background Due to limited therapeutic options and their association with high mortality and morbidity, carbapenem-non-susceptible Acinetobacter spp. (CNA) are of significant public health importance.

Quantifying the potential for climate change mitigation of consumption options

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2020
Background. Around two-thirds of global GHG emissions are directly and indirectly linked to household consumption, with a global average of about 6 tCO2eq/cap.

Characterization of fungal carbonyl sulfide hydrolase belonging to clade D β‐carbonic anhydrase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Here, we performed a functional analysis of the fungal enzymes belonging to clade D of the β‐class carbonic anhydrase family (β‐D‐CA). The β‐D‐CAs in the basidiomycete Gloeophyllum trabeum and the ascomycete Trichoderma harzianum showed very low activity in the hydration of CO2 but exhibited high activity in the hydrolysis of carbonyl sulfide (COS ...

Can (dynamic) social norms encourage plant-based food purchases? a quasi-experimental study in real-world Dutch supermarkets

open access: yesBMC Medicine
Background Communicating (dynamic) social norms is considered a promising tool to stimulate healthy and sustainable food choices. The aim of the present study was to evaluate to what extent a (dynamic) social norm intervention in real-world supermarkets ...

Simulation of Energy Consumption in Multi Cluster Wireless Sensor Networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Energy conserving protocols in wireless sensor networks (WSNs), such as S-MAC, introduce multi-cluster network. The border nodes in multi cluster WSNs have more active time than the other nodes in the network; hence have more energy depletion rate. Since

Functional variation among LPMOs revealed by the inhibitory effects of cyanide and buffer ions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study addresses the inhibition of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) by cyanide and explains how and why the magnitude of observed inhibitory effects depends on the way LPMO reactions are setup and on the type of LPMO. Enzymes known as lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) are mono‐copper polysaccharide‐degrading peroxygenases that ...

The incidence and prevalence of hospital-acquired (carbapenem-resistant) Acinetobacter baumannii in Europe, Eastern Mediterranean and Africa: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesEmerging Microbes and Infections, 2019
Due to therapeutic challenges, hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) caused by Acinetobacter baumannii (HA-AB), particularly carbapenem-resistant strains (HA-CRAB) pose a serious health threat to patients worldwide.

Ablation of LRP6 in alpha‐smooth muscle actin‐expressing cells abrogates lung inflammation and fibrosis upon bleomycin‐induced lung injury

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 6 (LRP6) is a key receptor for the Wnt antagonist Dickkopf1 (DKK1). DKK1 protein expression is induced in a bleomycin (BLM)‐induced lung injury model. We show that DKK1 induces proinflammatory and profibrotic genes in lung fibroblasts.

Temptation at every corner: exploring public perceptions of food cues and policy support for governmental food cue regulation in outdoor public spaces

open access: yesBMC Medicine
Background Unhealthy visual food cues in outdoor public spaces are external drivers of unhealthy diets. Food cues are visible situations associated with food-related memories.
