Nanoscale Friction: Phonon Contributions for Single and Multiple Contacts
A generic model has been developed to simulate the effect of phonon interactions during nanoscale sliding with an incommensurate interface. A rigid slider or array of sliders is translated across a 3D elastic slab whose mass elements are harmonically ...

Rough surface contact is difficult to model effectively due to multiple scales of detail that need to be considered. This work presents the results of a multiscale rough surface contact model in comparison to a finite element based deterministic model ...

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Friction Coefficient of Wet Clutches as a Function of Service Mileage
As a core component for efficient variable speed transmission and energy saving, wet clutches are widely used in the transmission systems of energy-saving and new energy vehicles.

Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

The eye contact effect: mechanisms and development [PDF]
The ‘eye contact effect’ is the phenomenon that perceived eye contact with another human face modulates certain aspects of the concurrent and/or immediately following cognitive processing.

Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...
