A study on the contact condition and the collision behaviour of a wheelset with a flat set on a roller rig

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2018
To investigate and understand conditions of mutual contact and collision impact between a wheel-flat and a roller rig, we first did a bench test of a bogie with the wheel flat on the roller rig.

Intermittent‐Contact Heterodyne Force Microscopy [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nanomaterials, 2009
Heterodyne Force Microscopy opens up a way to monitor nanoscale events with high temporal sensitivity from the quasistatic cantilever mechanical‐diode response taking advantage of the beat effect. Here, a novel heterodyne ultrasonic force method is proposed, in which the cantilever is driven in amplitude‐modulation mode, at its fundamental flexural ...

Feasibility and Tolerability of Performing Portable MRI for Neurological Disorders in an Outpatient Neurology Clinic: A Prospective Cohort

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Accessing brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be challenging, especially for underserved patients, which may lead to disparities in neurological diagnosis. Method This mixed‐methods study enrolled adults with one of four neurological disorders: mild cognitive impairment or dementia of the Alzheimer type, multiple sclerosis ...

Modeling Glenohumeral Stability in Musculoskeletal Simulations: A Validation Study With In Vivo Contact Forces

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering
Common optimization approaches for solving the muscle redundancy problem in musculoskeletal simulations can predict shoulder contact forces that either violate or barely satisfy joint stability requirements, with force directions falling outside or near ...

Validity of a Wearable Digital Insole for Assessing Gait ON and OFF in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Gait impairment is a distinctive symptom of Parkinson's disease that negatively impact mobility. We assessed the validity of wearable digital insoles against a validated reference gait analysis system for measuring select gait characteristics in patients with Parkinson's disease. Methods A comparative analysis between digital insoles

Contact force computation for bimanual grasps

open access: yes2017 22nd IEEE International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA), 2017
This paper presents a method to compute con- tact forces for bimanual grasps. The method is based on the optimization of the force distribution of the hands and min- imizing the force exerted by each finger, using two different cost functions. Both cost functions and the constrains of the optimization problem are formulated as functions of the joint ...

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

The Role of Calcitonin Gene‐Related Peptide in High‐Altitude Headache: A Prospective Field Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective High‐altitude headache (HAH) is a common neurological condition associated with rapid ascent to high altitude. The pathophysiological mechanisms underlying HAH remain incompletely understood. Calcitonin gene‐related peptide (CGRP), a neuropeptide implicated in migraine pathophysiology, may play a key role in the pathophysiology of ...

Analysis on Distribution and Evolution of Fiber Contact Force in the Fiber Assembly of Equal Size Fiber Under Triaxial Compression

open access: yesJournal of Natural Fibers
Fiber is similar to a long rod-shaped particle; the fiber assembly can be regarded as an assembly of fibrous particles (cotton, flax, and hemp). For the first time, we used PFC software to simulate fiber assembly compression. To analyze the contact force
