Ultrasonic characterisation of wheel hub/axle interference fit pressures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Railway wheels are secured onto the axle by means of an interference fit. The wheel is press fitted onto a pre-lubricated axle, and the resulting interference fit induces a contact pressure at the interface. Occasionally railway wheels fail by fatigue,

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Patellofemoral contact pressures.

open access: yesActa of bioengineering and biomechanics, 2009
A test rig for studying the biomechanical behaviour of post-mortem human knees is built. For loading the quadriceps tendon a special clamping device is constructed, so the forces up to 3000 N could easily be transferred to the tendon. Several post-mortem human knees used in this study are tested to collect data about the general biomechanics of knee ...

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Analysis on the Factors Influencing Thread Stress and Sealing Performance of Double-Shoulder Drilling Tool

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2021
The normal operation of drilling tool is directly affected by the strength and sealing performance of its threaded joint. Therefore, in order to ensure the smooth progress of oil and gas production, it is necessary to analyze the strength and sealing ...

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Influence of Casing Wear on Sealing Performance of Packer

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2021
In the process of drilling oil and gas wells in western China, severe casing wear occurred in many ultra-deep wells; however, in some special cases, the packer had to be set in the casing wear interval.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.
