Existence for viscoplastic contact with Coulomb friction problems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 2002
We present existence results in the study of nonlinear problem of frictional contact between an elastic-viscoplastic body and a rigid obstacle. We model the frictional contact both by a Tresca's friction law and a regularized Coulomb's law. We assume, in

Formal and informal social care in people with Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal diseases: a cross‐sectional multicentre survey

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Introduction Rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases(RMDs) are leading causes of physical disability, necessitating support with activities of daily living(ADLs). This study describes social care received by patients with RMDs in two disperate regions of England: Salford(urban) and Norfolk(rural).

A Full Multigrid Method for Linear Complementarity Problems arising from Elastic Normal Contact Problems

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2014
This paper presents a full multigrid (FMG) technique, which combines a multigrid method, an active set algorithm and a nested iteration technique, to solve a linear complementarity problem (LCP) modeling elastic normal contact problems.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Reliability based analysis of contact problems [PDF]

open access: yes
The Batdorf model is modified to include the reduction in shear due to the effect of compressive stresses on the crack face. This new formulation was used to obtain the probability of failure of ceramic components under contact stress conditions.

Shared parenting: A 70% solution? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In the context of increased litigation over contact, this article examines the debate around proposals for a presumption of ‘shared parenting’. It concludes that such a presumption would not achieve the aims of its proponents.

Modelling elastic structures with strong nonlinearities with application to stick-slip friction

open access: yes, 2013
An exact transformation method is introduced that reduces the governing equations of a continuum structure coupled to strong nonlinearities to a low dimensional equation with memory.

On the Lightweight Potential of Laser Additive Manufactured NiTi Triply Periodic Minimal Sheet Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the lightweight potential of laser additive‐manufactured NiTi triply periodic minimal surface sheet lattices. It systematically investigates the effects of relative density and unit cell size on surface quality, deformation recovery, compression behavior, and energy absorption.

Semi-analytical sensitivity analysis procedure for frictional contact problems

open access: yesComputer Assisted Methods in Engineering and Science, 2023
Although there is a need for sensitivity analysis for frictional contact problems in many engineering fields, research work on it has rarely been reported due to the complexity of the problems.

Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.
