Continuous-Wave Terahertz Spectroscopy of Plasmas and Biomolecules

International Journal of High Speed Electronics and Systems, 2003
Continuous-wave linear-absorption spectroscopy based on THz radiation generated by solid-state photomixers has been applied to the investigation of the dynamics of biomolecules in polyethylene matrices and to line shape studies of HF for diagnostics of semiconductor etching plasmas.

Frequency modulation for continuous wave terahertz spectroscopy

35th International Conference on Infrared, Millimeter, and Terahertz Waves, 2010
We propose a frequency modulation for continuous wave terahertz spectroscopy to replace conventional delay lines. We show that this technique in combination with a lock-in amplifier allows for a single sampling point detection of the amplitude and phase of the terahertz signal.

Power dependence of continuous-wave intracavity spectroscopy

Optics Letters, 1982
A theoretical and experimental analysis of the mode structure of a cw dye laser is presented that explains the increase in sensitivity enhancement of cw intracavity dye-laser spectroscopy (IDLS) at low power. We propose that this high sensitivity is associated with a long mode lifetime, in analogy to pulsed IDLS, in which high sensitivity is associated

Continuous-wave photothermal deflection spectroscopy with fundamental and harmonic responses

Optics Letters, 2002
A diffraction theory of continuous-wave photothermal deflection (PD) spectroscopy with fundamental and harmonic responses is presented. The displacement of the probe beam centroid is found to be a rigorous measurement of PD effect, which leads to a set of analytical solutions to the fundamental and the second-order harmonics.

Perspectives on Spectral Resolution in Continuous-Wave Terahertz Spectroscopy at Stand-off Distances

open access: yes, 2019
In this paper, we discuss practical aspects of continuous-wave frequency-domain terahertz spectroscopy measurements at stand-off distances. We highlight benefits of using various detection schemes and system configurations as well as the limitations of ...

Continuous wave field ionization laser spectroscopy

Applied Physics B Photophysics and Laser Chemistry, 1991
A new technique is described which allows Doppler-free, isotope-selective excitation of atoms by continuous wave laser radiation and continuous ionization of the atoms by an electric field. The atoms are excited to high Rydberg states in an electric-field-free region of a collimated atomic beam.

Sensitivity Limits of Continuous Wave Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2013
An optimized nonlinear least-squares fit algorithm for data processing in cavity ring-down spectroscopy (CRDS) is discussed, which improves the calculation efficiency substantially over using a general purpose fitting package. Theoretical absorption sensitivity limits for both the detector noise and the shot noise limited situations are derived and ...

Continuous wave terahertz emitter arrays for spectroscopy and imaging applications

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
We report on arrays of THz-emitters based on n-i-pn-i-p-superlattice photomixers for imaging and spectroscopic applications. The output power of a n-i-pn-i-p superlattice photomixers recently has reached nearly 1 μW at 1 THz with a broadband antenna. There are no fundamental physical limitations at this stage for further improvement.

Theory of continuous wave (CW) EPR spectroscopy

2016
This chapter presents a theoretical background on continuous wave (CW) electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, focusing on electron Zeeman, nuclear Zeeman, and hyperfine interactions. It discusses electron spin angular momentum and considers the effect of placing the unpaired electron in an external magnetic field from a classical ...

Spectroscopy and continuous wave laser performance of Yb^3+:LuAlO_3 crystal

Optics Letters, 2016
Crystal growth, polarized spectroscopic properties, lifetime measurements, and CW laser performance under diode pumping of a new Yb3+-doped LuAlO3 crystal (Yb:LuAP) are reported for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. The maximum absorption cross section of 6.6·10-20  cm2 at 978.5 nm was determined for E//c polarization.
