An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Citrus Mechanical Harvesting Systems--Continuous Canopy Shakers

open access: yesEDIS, 2014
Mechanization has been the hallmark of American agriculture. Nearly 100 percent of the agronomic crops grown in the United States are plowed, planted, and harvested with mechanical equipment.

Exploring continuous auditing solutions and internal auditing: A research note

open access: yesContabilitate şi Informatică de Gestiune, 2019
Research Question: Organizations increasingly buy standardized continuous auditing solutions from vendors rather than develop their own. What opportunities lie in exploring the adoption, implementation and application of such solutions in the context of ...

Continuous-Service M/M/1 Queuing Systems

open access: yesApplied System Innovation, 2019
In this paper, we look into a novel notion of the standard M/M/1 queueing system. In our study, we assume that there is a single server and that there are two types of customers: real and imaginary customers. Real customers are regular customers arriving

Repeated and continuous interactions in open quantum systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We consider a finite quantum system S coupled to two environments of different nature. One is a heat reservoir R (continuous interaction) and the other one is a chain C of independent quantum systems E (repeated interaction). The interactions of S with R

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Positivity of fractional descriptor linear continuous-time systems [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences: Technical Sciences, 2019
The positivity of fractional descriptor linear continuous-time systems is investigated. The solution to the state equation of the systems is derived. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the positivity of fractional descriptor linear continuous-time ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Coalgebraic Trace Semantics for Continuous Probabilistic Transition Systems [PDF]

open access: yesLogical Methods in Computer Science, 2013
Coalgebras in a Kleisli category yield a generic definition of trace semantics for various types of labelled transition systems. In this paper we apply this generic theory to generative probabilistic transition systems, short PTS, with arbitrary ...
