Contrast Enhancement in 2D Nanomaterial SEM Images

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings
Owing to their large size and flexibility, 2D nanostructures (e.g., graphene, graphene oxide, single-layer molybdenum disulfide, etc.) are technologically exploited in a supported form. Glass, silicon, and polymers are typical substrates.

A Critical Analysis on Perceptual Contrast and Its Use in Visual Information Analysis and Processing

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Contrast in visible images is one of the most relevant characteristics of visual signals. Since the pioneering works performed in vision psychology and optics, different definitions have been proposed in the literature.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Contrast Enhancement for Topographic Imaging in Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
The influence of the axial pinhole position in a confocal microscope in terms of the contrast of the image is analyzed. The pinhole displacement method is introduced which allows to increase the contrast for topographic imaging.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Evaluatıon of contrast enhancement intensity, pattern, and kinetics of breast lesions on contrast-enhanced spectral mammography

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine
Background Contrast-enhanced spectral mammography (CESM) is a new and promising imaging modality that improves tumor visibility through tumor contrast enhancement caused by malignant neovascularization. Breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is based on

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Acceleration of Histogram-Based Contrast Enhancement via Selective Downsampling

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper, we propose a general framework to accelerate the universal histogram-based image contrast enhancement (CE) algorithms. Both spatial and gray-level selective down- sampling of digital images are adopted to decrease computational cost, while

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
