Bankruptcy Risk and Imperfectly Enforced Emissions Taxes [PDF]

open access: yes
Under favorable but reasonable conditions, an imperfectly enforced emissions tax produces the efficient allocation of individual emissions control; aggregate emissions are independent of whether enforcement of the tax is sufficient to induce the full ...

Intrabandgap States Engineering in Functionalized Nanodiamond to Generate Solvated Electrons for Photocatalysis Under Solar Illumination

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The negative electron affinity of diamond allows to emit highly reductive electrons. By introducing intra‐bandgap states and an optimized electron transfer mechanism by surface functionalization with Ru(bpy)3, the formation of solvated electrons is achieved upon solar irradiation.

Upcycling of Disposable Face Masks into Water‐Resistant and Flame Retardant Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Disposable mask waste is upcycled into lightweight polypropylene‐based foams with tunable porosity and composite architectures reinforced by ear‐loop fibers. The sustainable solvent‐based process enables upcycling rates of 91% and solvent recovery of >90%.

Structural Porosity and Low Mineral Density in Enamel Rods Drive Molar Incisor Hypomineralisation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study uses advanced imaging modalities on multiple length scales to show that molar‐incisor hypomineralization does not present as a locally homogeneous pathology. Instead, microstructural defects, characterized through non‐mineralized, protein‐rich sheaths and an altered mineral structure in between prism rods, resulting in local differences in ...

Conditional Allocation of Control Rights in Venture Capital Finance [PDF]

open access: yes
When a young entrepreneurial firm matures, it is often necessary to replace the founding entrepreneur by a professional manager. This replacement decision can be affected by the private benefits of control enjoyed by the entrepreneur which gives rise to ...

Hybrid Microdiscs for Magnetically Induced Non‐Cytotoxic Thermal Actuation and Programmable Biomolecule Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hybrid magnetic microdiscs with customizable size and composition are engineered through refined photolithography and LbL assembly. Embedded Fe3O4 nanoparticles enable localized, non‐cytotoxic heating, while protein cargos can be incorporated in tunable quantities.

From Mechanics to Electronics: Influence of ALD Interlayers on the Multiaxial Electro‐Mechanical Behavior of Metal–Oxide Bilayers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ultrathin AlOxHy interlayers between aluminum films and polymer substrates significantly improve electro‐mechanical properties of flexible thin film systems. By precisely controlling interlayer thickness using atomic layer deposition, this study identifies an optimal interlayer thickness of 5–10 nm that enhances ductility and delays cracking.
