Evolutionary Computing: Opportunities for Control Engineers

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2001
Abstract Control systems engineers regularly use optimisation in design and on-line applications. However, increasingly, due to the nature of the search space or because of the decision variable data types, for example, these problems cannot be solved satisfactorily using traditional approaches.

Engineering of computer-based systems in process control

Proceedings IEEE Symposium and Workshop on Engineering of Computer-Based Systems, 2002
Automation and control systems consist of an increasing amount of complex hardware and software. They are difficult to handle due to hard real time restrictions and intensive interaction with the environment. Faced with short product life cycles, the need for appropriate design methods for distributed real-time systems in this application field arises.

An Introduction to Systems and Control Theory for Computer Scientists and Engineers

Proceedings of the 8th ACM/SPEC on International Conference on Performance Engineering, 2017
This paper accompanies a tutorial aimed at introducing the basics of system and control theory so as to foster their utilisation for the management, but most important for the design, of computing systems. The tutorial is divided into three parts. The first one introduces the fundamental concepts of dynamic system and feedback and gives an overview of ...

Computer aids for engineering change control

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 1998
Abstract Our recent survey within the UK manufacturing industry has highlighted that engineering change control (ECC) is a significant issue in product development. There have appeared a large number of computer-aided ECC systems, commercially available or developed in-house.

Reliability and Quality Control of Production Engineering Computer Programs

Journal of Aircraft, 1973
Action taken by an aircraft engineering organization to improve the quality and reliability of its technical software is described. Before and after comparisons are given to illustrate that the quality and reliability were improved to where engineers no longer considered them to be a major factor in task planning and the expenditure of programing time ...

An Integrated Environment for Computer Aided Control Systems Engineering

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1985
Abstract The engineering of software for Computer Aided Control Systems Engineering (CACSE) using the concept of software tools is discussed. A set of tools are presented which will provide an infrastructure upon which a fully integrated CACSE package could be readily built. Emphasis is placed on the man-machine interface.

A KNOWLEDGE BASED ENVIRONMENT FOR COMPUTER AIDED CONTROL ENGINEERING

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1988
Abstract Computer Aided Control Engineering is addressed in the context of an integrated environment. A set of functional requirements is stated as a basis for the development of a software structure which can be viewed as a composite object consisting of design, analysis, specification, validation and implementation tools, as well as a problem ...

Remote operation and control of computer engineering laboratory experiments

Proceedings of the 2006 workshop on Computer architecture education held in conjunction with the 33rd International Symposium on Computer Architecture - WCAE '06, 2006
We present a lab-in-a-box, a metal case needing only power supply and network access, to provide a complete infrastructure to establish a microprocessor laboratory for embedded applications in computer engineering. The laboratory is used in distance teaching and thus all instruments and devices are controlled and observed via the net.

Knowledge engineering in the computer‐aided design of control systems

Expert Systems, 1989
Abstract: MAID is an expert system for the computer‐aided design of control systems. It is developed in conjunction with the successful application of a systematic control system design technique. The design problem has been decomposed into sub‐problems, resulting in good modularity of design knowledge.
