TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Development of a total Lagrangian SPH code for the simulation of solids under dynamioc loading [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This thesis makes use of an alternative SPH formulation, the Total Lagrangianf ormulation, to characterised ynamic eventsi n solids and to achieve the proposed objectives outlined in Chapter 1.

Improving the performance of concrete using 3D fibres

open access: yes, 2012
This paper examines whether 3D fibre reinforcement can improve the toughness and flexural strength of concrete, when compared to equal dosage of straight steel fibres. This work was carried out to determine structural qualities that may lead to potential

Recent advances in dental implants

open access: yesMaxillofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2017
Dental implants are a common treatment for the loss of teeth. This paper summarizes current knowledge on implant surfaces, immediate loading versus conventional loading, short implants, sinus lifting, and custom implants using three-dimensional printing.

Impact of dissolved oxygen and loading rate on NH3 oxidation and N2 production mechanisms in activated sludge treatment of sewage

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, 2021
Summary Microaerobic activated sludge (MAS) is a one‐stage process operated at 0.5–1.0 mg l−1 dissolved oxygen (DO) aiming at simultaneous nitrification and denitrification.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Graded conventional-auxetic Kirigami sandwich structures:Flatwise compression and edgewise loading

open access: yes, 2014
The work describes the manufacturing and testing of graded conventional/auxetic honeycomb cores. The graded honeycombs are manufactured using Kevlar woven fabric/914epoxy prepreg using Kirigami techniques, which consist in a combination of Origami and ...
