Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Comparing the effect of off-loading knee brace with and without local muscle vibration on clinical and biomechanical outcomes in patients with medial knee osteoarthritis: A randomized clinical trial

open access: yesJournal of Rehabilitation and Assistive Technologies Engineering
Background Medial knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a prevalent degenerative joint disease causing pain and functional impairment. Off-loading knee braces reduce pain but may decrease muscle activity, leading to weakness.

Structural Behaviour of Slab-on-Grade Constructed Using High-Ductility Fiber-Reinforced Cement Composite: Experimental and Analytical Investigation

open access: yesFibers
This study investigated the structural behavior of slab-on-grade (SOG) specimens constructed using two materials: conventional concrete reinforced with steel mesh and high-ductility fiber-reinforced cement composites (HDFRCC) containing 1.2% polyethylene

Single specimen repeated loading method for determination of residual strength parameters of rock

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2019
Based on the single test method and the deformation characteristics of residual phase of rock, a single specimen repeated loading method is proposed to measure the residual strength parameters of the rock.

ESR1 methylation and ESR1 mutations in circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and paired plasma‐cfDNA of advanced breast cancer patients: A feasibility proof‐of‐concept study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and plasma cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) were analyzed to detect ESR1 mutations and methylation in patients with advanced breast cancer. CTC‐derived DNA showed higher sensitivity for mutation detection and revealed complementary genetic and epigenetic alterations, highlighting the added value of CTC analysis for understanding ...

Numerical simulation of conventional RC columns under concentric loading

open access: yes, 2009
This paper aims to explore the correct prediction of stress-strain behavior and the determination of load ratio of conventional reinforced concrete (RC) columns subjected to concentric loading. Although there are numerous empirical confinement models are

Standardized sign conventions and notation for generally loaded foundations

open access: yesGéotechnique, 1997
There has recently been increasing research on the classical geotechnical problem of the load-displacement response of rigid shallow foundations under general loading conditions. Most of the published experimental data and mathematical models relate to the problem's two-dimensional version, where a footing of given breadth supports given vertical and ...

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Clinical performance of the urine‐based TERT promoter AbsoluteQ Digital PCR for non‐invasive detection of bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A urine‐based digital PCR assay targeting two hotspot TERT promoter variants detected bladder cancer with high sensitivity and no false positives in this case–control cohort. The streamlined AbsoluteQ workflow outperformed Sanger sequencing and supports non‐invasive molecular testing for bladder cancer detection.
