Dynamic card controlling in a Conwip system

International Journal of Production Economics, 2006
Abstract The main parameter affecting the performance of pull systems (such as Kanban or Conwip) is the number of cards employed to control the release of the material. Therefore, establishing the correct number of cards in pull systems is an important issue that can be addressed either statically (i.e. card setting), or dynamically (i.e.

Simulation study of CONWIP for a cold rolling plant

International Journal of Production Economics, 1998
The CONWIP production control system has received a great deal of attention from researchers recently. In this paper, we introduce a method to determine the card number of the CONWIP system for a production line with a bottleneck. The simulation study compares the CONWIP system and the original control system for the four situations in a cold rolling ...

Comparing reactive Kanban and reactive CONWIP

Production Planning & Control, 2002
This paper compares a reactive Kanban system to a reactive CONWIP system under conditions of unstable changes in demand using simulation experiments. After an introduction, a model of the JIT ordering systems, the Kanban and the CONWIP systems, is constructed.

CONWIP based control of a lamp assembly production line

Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing, 2007
Efficient and effective production control systems are very important for manufacturing plants. CONWIP, one of these production control systems, has a high potential of becoming the best one available because it suits a variety of production environments and is easy to implement.

A CONWIP model for FMS control

Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing, 2002
Production inventory control is one of the most important aspects of a flexible manufacturing system (FMS) design. CONstant Work In Process (CONWIP), which is a hybrid of push-and-pull type systems, offers an alternative to effective utilization of the expensive FMS equipment while still meeting customer requirements. In the selection of an FMS control

CONWIP: a pull alternative to kanban

International Journal of Production Research, 1990
SUMMARY This paper describes a new pull-based production system called CONWIP. Practical advantages of CONWIP over push and other pull systems are given. Theoretical arguments in favour of the system are outlined and simulation studies are included to give insight into the system's performance.

Analysis of a simple CONWIP system with impatient customers

2008 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering, 2008
We study a single-stage, constant work-in-process (CONWIP) production system that produces one product to stock to cope with random demand. During stockout periods, the system incurs three types of potential customer loss: Balking, i.e., arriving customers may be unwilling to place orders and leave immediately.

CONWIP implementation in a system with cross-trained teams

International Journal of Production Research, 2019
Although a significant amount of research exists on the implementation of the CONstant Work In Process (CONWIP) production control strategy in different types of manufacturing environments, the cha...
