Parallel kanban-CONWIP for production system with rework entrance

International Journal of Manufacturing Research, 2013
Parallel kanban-constant work in process (WIP) (CONWIP) (PKC) integrates kanban and CONWIP systems to regulate separately production of high- and low-demand items. This paper studies the performance of PKC variants under a production environment that requires the entrance of rework parts. A case study was performed at an electronics assembly plant with

Generic Routings for ConWip Sizing in a Multi-product Environment

2018
In a vulnerable, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environment, ConWip provides a sustainable, effective and adaptive production control system for manufacturers. The present paper deals with the key questions related to the implementation of ConWip in a high product mix and/or high routing mix environment. To respond to this challenge, generic routing

Hybrid Kanban/CONWIP Control

2011
The basic idea behind a hybrid Kanban/CONWIP control is to combine the decentralized WIP control from Kanban with the centralized WIP control from CONWIP. This method for controlling production was developed and evaluated in simulation studies by Bonvik, Couch and Gershwin [Bonv-97*]. In simulation studies with comparable WIP levels the method achieved

Performance evaluation and design of a CONWIP system with inspections

International Journal of Production Economics, 2000
Abstract In this paper, we analyze a CONWIP (Constant Work-In-Process) system which consists of three stations in series. We assume that raw parts are always available. When a finished part is consumed by a demand, a raw part is released immediately and gets processed at each station sequentially. The processings do not always meet the requirement of

Dynamic decentralised balancing of CONWIP production systems

International Journal of Production Research, 2009
This paper presents a non-linear programming model for online balancing of the work-in-queue (WIQ) of a fast response production system that consists of multiple workstations and diverse part mix. The model resembles a multiple product CONWIP system with a variety of products’ routings and bottlenecks.

An adaptive CONWIP mechanism for hybrid production systems

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2014
In this paper, we consider a hybrid production system with two distinct production lines, where one of them undertakesremanufacturingactivitieswhiletheotherexecutes traditional manufacturing tasks. The output of either produc- tion line can satisfy the demand for the same type of product without any penalties.

Sequencing policy for a CONWIP production system

2014
The optimization of the performance of a constant Work-in-Progress (CONWIP) production system through the sequencing of its backlog list is investigated. The performance measures considered are throughput, optimum WIP level (m*), and flow time. Analysis of the effects of sequence dependent bottlenecks on system performance is provided.

Multi-Product CONWIP System Performance Analysis

The increasingly competitive and volatile market requires an adequate production management system to develop customized and unique products quickly and at the lowest possible cost to meet customer needs. The main aim of this chapter is to design a simulation model for studying the behavior patterns of selected performance measures, including mean ...
