Stellar Chromospheric Activities Revealed from the LAMOST-K2 Time-domain Survey
By using the LAMOST time-domain survey data, we study stellar activities based on the H _α lines for about 2000 stars in four K2 plates. Two indices, ${R}_{{\rm{H}}\alpha }^{{\prime} }$ and ${R}_{{\rm{H}}\alpha }^{+}$ , are computed from LAMOST spectra ...

Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...

Cooling rates are first calculated for neutron stars of about 1 M⊙ and 10 km radius, with magnetic fields from zero to about 1014 G, for two extreme cases of maximum and no superfluidity. The results show that most pulsars are so cold that thermal ionization of surface atoms would be negligible.

The Shewanella oneidensis Fic enzyme SoFic targets the switch‐I region of EF‐Tu for AMPylation
Fic enzymes mediate diverse post‐translational modifications across all domains of life, including AMPylation. Prokaryotic EF‐Tu can be AMPylated and deAMPylated by the conserved Fic enzyme SoFic. Structural and biochemical approaches were used to characterize the effect of AMPylation on EF‐Tu, SoFic's enzymatic activities, and the enzyme‐target ...

Flare Hunting in Hot Subdwarf and White Dwarf Stars from Cycles 1–5 of TESS Photometry
Stellar flares are critical phenomena on stellar surfaces, which are closely tied to stellar magnetism. While extensively studied in main-sequence (MS) stars, their occurrence in evolved compact stars, specifically hot subdwarfs and white dwarfs (WDs ...

Empirical 2MASS–WFC3/IR Filter Transformations Across the H-R Diagram from Synthetic Photometry
Near-infrared bandpasses on spaceborne observatories diverge from their ground-based counterparts as they are free of atmospheric telluric absorption.

Chiral separation of chloroalkanes with the chromatographic column onboard Martian rovers
Computer image of the Rosalind Franklin Rover of ESA's ExoMars mission. ExoMars is scheduled to land on planet Mars in Oxia Planum in 2029. This area represents an interesting spot to look for biosignatures. Investigations of ExoMars include measurement on molecular chirality. We show that chiral chloroalkanes, that have been identified on Mars, can be

Helium Abundance of the Sun: A Spectroscopic Analysis
Determining the He/H ratio in cool stars presents a fundamental astrophysical challenge. While this ratio is established for hot O and B stars, its extrapolation to cool stars remains uncertain due to the absence of helium lines in their observed spectra.

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Using the Coolest Ae Stars to Constrain Circumstellar Disk Viscosity
Classical Ae (CAe) stars are main-sequence, A-type stars with H α emission but no signature of dust. They are thought to be the cool extension of the classical Be stars to lower masses.
