How to Plan Urban Parks and the Surrounding Buildings to Maximize the Cooling Effect: A Case Study in Xi’an, China

open access: yesLand
Urban areas with parks tend to have the best outdoor thermal comfort in regions with high urban heat island effects during summer. This study analyzed the synergistic cooling effects of 94 urban parks and the adjacent built-up areas in six districts of ...

Identifying the Influencing Factors of Cooling Effect of Urban Blue Infrastructure Using the Geodetector Model

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
The urban heat island (UHI) effect has a serious negative impact on urban ecosystems and human well-being. Mitigating UHI through nature-based methods is highly recommended.

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Optimizing the landscape pattern of blue-green space is more effective than simply increasing the area for cooling effect

open access: yesFrontiers in Forests and Global Change
BackgroundBlue-Green Space (BGS) is critical for mitigating the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect amid rapid global urbanization. However, the comparative cooling efficiency of BGS landscape configuration versus simple area expansion remains understudied ...

Evaluate the Cooling Effect of Cooling Garments: A Review

open access: yesJournal of Natural Fibers
Personal cooling garments have the advantages of being highly effective and economically practical, and are widely used in industry, medicine and aerospace. Personal cooling garments exhibit different cooling efficiencies and thermal comfort in different environments due to their different cooling medium characteristics. Air-cooling garments and liquid-

CEACAM1 participation in breast cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In invasive breast cancer (BC), CEACAM1 shifts from an apical to a uniform membranous/cytoplasmic pattern, or is lost, as tumors dedifferentiate, inversely tracking the Ki‐67 proliferative index. In MCF‐7 cells, only CEACAM1‐4L suppresses proliferation, repressing cell cycle and growth factor genes.

Threshold Effects of Vegetation Structure on Outdoor Thermal Comfort: Balancing Radiative Shading and Ventilation in Rural Environments

open access: yesAtmosphere
Outdoor open spaces are essential for daily activities in ageing rural environments, yet the thermal effectiveness of vegetation under varying structural configurations remains unclear.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐
