KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Cooling Performance of Impingement–Effusion Double-Wall Configurations Under Atmospheric and Elevated Pressures

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The combustor liner of the modern aero-engine operates under extreme thermal loads with limited coolant supply, necessarily making efficient cooling approaches important.

Evaluate the Cooling Effect of Cooling Garments: A Review

open access: yesJournal of Natural Fibers
Personal cooling garments have the advantages of being highly effective and economically practical, and are widely used in industry, medicine and aerospace. Personal cooling garments exhibit different cooling efficiencies and thermal comfort in different environments due to their different cooling medium characteristics. Air-cooling garments and liquid-

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Study of double-wall effusion cooling scheme for gas turbine blade applications

open access: yes, 2020
Porous multi-wall cooling schemes such as double-wall cooling combined with effusion cooling offer a practical approximation to transpiration cooling which in turn present a potential for high cooling effectiveness.

Decreased cold‐sensing function of the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8 from tailed amphibians

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

Control of mineral scaling in power plant recirculating cooling systems using treated municipal wastewater [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The global energy demand is projected to increase by 77% from 2006 to 2030 along with a projected 38% increase in freshwater withdrawal for cooling in power industry. Finding alternative sources of water for cooling has become essential for future energy
