Film cooling on the pressure surface of a turbine vane [PDF]

open access: yes
Film-cooling-air ejection from the pressure surface of a turbine vane was investigated, and experimental data are presented. This investigation was conducted in a four-vane cascade on a J75-size turbine vane that had a double row of staggered holes in ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Study on turbine blade overall cooling effectiveness under thermal radiation and non-uniform inlet temperature

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
As the inlet temperature of the turbine continues to rise, if only heat conduction and convective heat transfer are considered, the temperature difference between numerical simulation and experimental will become apparent.

Cooling interventions for athletes: An overview of effectiveness, physiological mechanisms, and practical considerations. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Exercise-induced increases in core body temperature could negative impact performance and may lead to development of heat-related illnesses. The use of cooling techniques prior (pre-cooling), during (per-cooling) or directly after (post-cooling) exercise

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

Comparison of heat transfer characteristics of three cooling configurations for air-cooled turbine vanes tested in a turbojet engine [PDF]

open access: yes
A comparison was made of the heat transfer characteristics of three air cooled vanes. The vanes incorporated cooling schemes such as impingement cooling, film cooling, and convection cooling with and without extended surfaces.

Energy saving potential of a counter-flow regenerative evaporative cooler for various climates of China: Experiment-based evaluation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
© 2017 Recently there has been growing interest in regenerative evaporative coolers (REC), which can reduce the temperature of the supply air to below the wet-bulb of intake air and approach its dew-point.

Understanding the Effect of Resistance Temperature Detector Temperature Controllers on Microstructural Alignment in Magnetic Freeze Casting

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The effect of temperature controllers that are commonly used in freeze‐casting is investigated in this work. Temperature controllers are observed to generate a voltage in the slurry. Microstructural alignment and ultimate compressive strength data show this voltage to interfere with the ability to align the microstructure using magnetic fields ...
