End-to-end thiocyanato-bridged helical chain polymer and dichlorido-bridged copper(II) complexes with a hydrazone ligand: synthesis, characterisation by electron paramagnetic resonance and variable- temperature magnetic studies, and inhibitory effects on human colorectal carcinoma cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The reactions of the tridentate hydrazone ligand, N’-[1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethylidene]acetohydrazide (HL), obtained by condensation of 2-acetylpyridine with acetic hyadrazide, with copper nitrate trihydrate in the presence of thiocyanate, or with CuCl2 ...

Theory of voltammetry in charged porous media

open access: yes, 2018
We couple the Leaky Membrane Model, which describes the diffusion and electromigration of ions in a homogenized porous medium of fixed background charge, with Butler-Volmer reaction kinetics for flat electrodes separated by such a medium in a simple ...

Organics Substantially Reduce HO2 Uptake Onto Aerosols Containing Transition Metal ions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A HO2 mass accommodation coefficient of α = 0.23 ± 0.07 was measured onto sub-micron copper (II) doped ammonium sulphate aerosols at a relative humidity of 60 ± 3 %, at 293 ± 2 K and at an initial HO2 concentration of ~ 1 × 109 molecule cm-3 using an ...

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Binding copper(II) ion released from azo-amino acid Schiff base complex into lysozyme crystals as models for treatment of Alzheimer’s disease [PDF]

open access: yesExploration of Drug Science
Aim: One of the causes of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the structural change and aggregation of target proteins due to the binding of metal ions. In this study, we investigated where copper(II) ions bound to the protein egg white lysozyme crystals in a ...

Predicting the capability of oxidized cnw adsorbents for the remediation of copper under optimal operating conditions using rsm and ann models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Metal pollutants such as copper released into the aqueous environment have been increasing as a result of anthropogenic activities. Adsorption-based treatment technologies offer opportunities to remediate metal pollutants from municipal and industrial ...

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Antifouling bastadin congeners target blue mussel phenoloxidase and complex copper(II) ions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Synthetically prepared congeners of spongederived bastadin derivatives such as 5,5'-dibromohemibastadin- 1 (DBHB) that suppress the settling of barnacle larvae were identified in this study as strong inhibitors of blue mussel phenoloxidase that is ...

EBSD Study of Creep‐Induced Lattice Misorientation in MgO‐Particle‐Reinforced Austenitic Steel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.
