Chromosomes of the Genus Corchorus

Nature, 1953
BANERJI1 was the first to study the chromosome numbers in the genus Corchorus, and he found that seven was the haploid number. His survey included two varieties of C. olitorius Linn., four varieties of C. capsularis Linn. and C. acutangulus Lamk. Later, Nakajima2 confirmed the observations of Banerji in the case of C. capsularis Linn.

Phytochemical investigation of Corchorus olitorius and Corchorus capsularis (Family Tiliaceae) that grow in Egypt

Egyptian Pharmaceutical Journal, 2019
Background and objective Corchorus (Family Tiliaceae) is a genus of annual herbs. Nearly 40 species are known to occur in nature and distributed in the tropics of both hemispheres. Jute (Corchorus spp.) Breeding

2019
Jute (Corchorus spp.) has more than 100 species, but only white jute (C. capsularis) and dark jute (C. olitorius) are commercially cultivated diploid (2n = 2x = 14) crops traditionally used to make coarse cloth, burlap, rope and paper. Jute is one of the world’s important sources of natural fiber, but a distant second to cotton. This chapter focuses on

SEED PRODUCTION IN CORCHORUS OLITORIUS

Acta Horticulturae, 1983
Sixteen Corchorus olitorius accessions were field evaluated to provide basic information on seed production. Dry seed yields per plant ranged from 9.8g to 235.0g among 15 accessions grown during the dry season (November 1980February 1981) in contrast to 2.6g produced by a commercial cultivar (oniyaya) in the previous rainy season (March -May 1980).
