SICAS, a new integrated divertor-SOL-pedestal-core framework for self-consistent modeling of ion and impurity transport in fusion devices

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
We present a new framework for core-edge integration studies named SICAS (SOLPS-ITER coupled to ASTRA-STRAHL) which enables high fidelity simulations of the core, edge, and divertor regions encompassing the transport of ions as well as the impurities ...

SOLEDGE3X integrated core-edge modelling of tungsten sources, migration, and radiation in WEST plasmas

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy
The W impurity species was introduced in the multi-component edge fluid code SOLEDGE3X, in its 2D transport version. To do so, several physical ingredients have been implemented. Firstly, W gross erosion is calculated using the Garcia-Rosales formula, and W re-deposition is estimated with either a Groth–Tskhakaya formulation or a Neural Network trained

Long's Vortex Revisited [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The conical self-similar vortex solution of Long (1961) is reconsidered, with a view toward understanding what, if any, relationship exists between Long's solution and the more-recent similarity solutions of Mayer and Powell (1992), which are a ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Modeling electron temperature profiles in the pedestal with simple formulas for ETG transport

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
This paper reports on the refinement (building on (Hatch D.R. et al 2022 Phys. Plasmas 29 062501)) and application of simple formulas for electron heat transport from electron temperature gradient (ETG) driven turbulence in the pedestal. The formulas are

Parametric Evolution for a Deformed Cavity

open access: yes, 2001
We consider a classically chaotic system that is described by a Hamiltonian H(Q,P;x), where (Q,P) describes a particle moving inside a cavity, and x controls a deformation of the boundary. The quantum-eigenstates of the system are |n(x)>. We describe how

Service-Oriented Multigranular Optical Network Architecture for Clouds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper presents a novel service-oriented network architecture to bridge the informational gap between user applications and optical networks providing technology-agnostic multigranular optical network services for clouds.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Dependence of particle and power dissipation on divertor geometry and plasma shaping in DIII-D small-angle-slot divertor

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2022
Dedicated experiments in DIII-D find that magnetic shaping and divertor target geometry significantly affect the divertor plasma conditions and divertor detachment process in the small-angle-slot (SAS) divertor.

Exact Fermi-edge singularity exponent in a Luttinger liquid

open access: yes, 1997
We report the exact calculation of the Fermi-edge singularity exponent for correlated electrons in one dimension (Luttinger liquid). Focusing on the special interaction parameter g=1/2, the asymptotic long-time behavior can be obtained using the Wiener ...
