The role and implications of mammalian cellular circadian entrainment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At their most fundamental level, mammalian circadian rhythms occur inside every individual cell. To tell the correct time, cells must align (or ‘entrain’) their circadian rhythm to the external environment. In this review, we highlight how cells entrain to the major circadian cues of light, feeding and temperature, and the implications this has for our

Core Stability and Core Selection in a Decentralized Labor Matching Market

open access: yesGames, 2016
We propose a dynamic model of decentralized many-to-one matching in the context of a competitive labor market. Through wage offers and wage demands, firms compete over workers and workers compete over jobs. Firms make hire-and-fire decisions dependent on

The enigmatic core L1451-mm: a first hydrostatic core? or a hidden VeLLO?

open access: yes, 2011
We present the detection of a dust continuum source at 3-mm (CARMA) and 1.3-mm (SMA), and 12CO(2-1) emission (SMA) towards the L1451-mm dense core. These detections suggest a compact object and an outflow where no point source at mid-infrared wavelengths

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

Del Atlántico al Pacífico

open access: yesHumanidades, 2013
Existe una relación circular, de ida y vuelta, en cualquier vinculación humana; los viajes, que permiten tomar contacto con otras realidades geográficas y nuevos pueblos, amplían esas relaciones y dejan huella en los protagonistas.

Investigation of the scale effect and the concept of a representative volume element of rocks in relation to porosity

open access: yesGeoresursy, 2020
The article discusses the concepts of upscaling, the representative volume element (RVE) of the geological environment in relation to porosity from the point of view of the theory of structured continuum.

Dual-core antiresonant hollow core fibers

open access: yesOptics Express, 2016
In this work, dual-core antiresonant hollow core fibers (AR-HCFs) are numerically demonstrated, based on our knowledge, for the first time. Two fiber structures are proposed. One is a composite of two single-core nested nodeless AR-HCFs, exhibiting low confinement loss and a circular mode profile in each core.

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

Inter bárbaros: una propuesta metodológica para descifrar la identidad romana

open access: yesMillars. Espai i Història, 2018
Este artículo es una breve aproximación al concepto de alteridad y su relación con la posible existencia de una conciencia de identidad romana, para lo que nos preguntamos en primer lugar, ¿qué significa “ser romano”?

Caging the Beast: TRIM5α Binding to the HIV-1 Core

open access: yesViruses, 2011
The potent HIV-1 inhibitor TRIM5α blocks HIV-1 infection by accelerating the uncoating of HIV-1. TRIM5α is known to form higher-order self-association complexes that contribute to the avidity of TRIM5α for the HIV-1 capsid, and are essential to inhibit ...
