A Survey on Low Latency Towards 5G: RAN, Core Network and Caching Solutions [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials, 2017
The fifth generation (5G) wireless network technology is to be standardized by 2020, where main goals are to improve capacity, reliability, and energy efficiency, while reducing latency and massively increasing connection density.

Core Outcome Sets [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of disease in childhood - Education & practice edition, 2017
‘Clinical trials are only as credible as their outcomes.’1 Clinical trials guide clinical practice. They do this by demonstrating beneficial or detrimental effects of an intervention on patients: the outcomes of the trial. The reliability of trial findings can be reduced by poor research practices such as inadequate allocation concealment or lack of ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

CEGMA: a pipeline to accurately annotate core genes in eukaryotic genomes

open access: yesBioinform., 2007
MOTIVATION The numbers of finished and ongoing genome projects are increasing at a rapid rate, and providing the catalog of genes for these new genomes is a key challenge.

A direct N-body model of core-collapse and core oscillations

open access: yes, 2012
We report on the results of a direct N-body simulation of a star cluster that started with N = 200 000, comprising 195 000 single stars and 5 000 primordial binaries.

Structural changes in the interbank market across the financial crisis from multiple core-periphery analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Interbank markets are often characterised in terms of a core-periphery network structure, with a highly interconnected core of banks holding the market together, and a periphery of banks connected mostly to the core but not internally.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Psychoanalytic core competence [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2015
Although it has been shown that psychotherapy is highly effective, there is still a debate on how and why method specific interventions impact on the patient. We propose that psychoanalytic competence is defined by the capability to work with and understand unconscious dynamics by adhering to specific internal attitudes and maintaining certain frames ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Effect of core--mantle and tidal torques on Mercury's spin axis orientation

open access: yes, 2013
The rotational evolution of Mercury's mantle and its core under conservative and dissipative torques is important for understanding the planet's spin state.
