Human antigen R protein modulates vascular endothelial growth factor expression in human corneal epithelial cells under hypoxia

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association, 2020
Purpose: Corneal avascularity is critical for corneal transparency; therefore, a tailored process has been presumed to minimize corneal neovascularization (NV).

Establishment of the New Zealand white rabbit animal model of fatty keratopathy associated with corneal neovascularization

open access: yesOpen Life Sciences, 2021
The term fatty keratopathy is used to describe the phenomenon of fat deposition caused by corneal neovascularization, which will severely affect the eye’s beauty and vision.

Corneal transplantation: Restoring sight to the blind

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Corneal blindness is one of the leading causes of vision loss worldwide. Transplantation of the cornea can restore vision and make blind patients see again. Corneal transplant surgery has undergone major evolution in recent decades with the advent of minimally invasive lamellar surgical approaches such as DMEK and DALK.

Topical Nanoemulsion of a Runt-related Transcription Factor 1 Inhibitor for the Treatment of Pathologic Ocular Angiogenesis

open access: yesOphthalmology Science, 2022
Purpose: To test the efficacy of runt-related transcription factor 1 (RUNX1) inhibition with topical nanoemulsion containing Ro5-3335 (eNano-Ro5) in experimental ocular neovascularization. Design: Preclinical experimental study.

Childhood ocular safety after postnatal exposure to topical dexamethasone during retinopathy of prematurity screening

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Dexamethasone eye drops are being introduced off‐label to prevent progression of severe retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). We evaluated ophthalmologic outcomes in early childhood after postnatal topical dexamethasone exposure in pre‐term infants at a standardized follow‐up examination.

Aqueous Humour Cytokines as Predictors of Axial Elongation in High Myopia: A 2‐Year Longitudinal Cohort Study

open access: yesClinical &Experimental Ophthalmology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background To investigate the predictive value of aqueous humour cytokines for axial elongation. Methods This was a prospective longitudinal observational study. 72 high myopia patients (72 eyes) who received implantable collamer lens (ICL) implantation surgery with at least 2 years of follow‐up were included.

Stage‐Associated Microglial Subpopulations and Dynamics in Vascular Pathogenesis of Oxygen‐Induced Retinopathy

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
In the oxygen‐induced retinopathy (OIR) mouse model, two distinct microglial subpopulations play opposing roles: highly glycolytic microglia (HGM) promote neovascular formation via Pkm2, while Mrc1/CD206‐positive phagocytosis‐associated microglia (PAM) facilitate its regression.

A case of vascularized corneal opacity treated with aflibercept

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2020
Background: Corneal neovascularization (CNV) is a serious condition that can lead to a profound decline in vision. Current research on treating CNV with angiogenesis inhibitors is underway in numerous centers, and a number of studies have demonstrated ...

Zeb2 Controls Retinal Physiological and Pathological Angiogenesis by Regulating Astrocyte Proliferation and Differentiation

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
During development, the oxygen‐sensitive transcription factor Zeb2 restrains astrocyte proliferation and maturation to ensure balanced retinal angiogenesis. In disease, it promotes the neurotoxic A1 astrocyte phenotype and inflammation, thereby promoting reparative revascularization over pathological neovascularization.
