Edge and corner preserving smoothing for artistic imaging
SPIE Proceedings, 2007What visually distinguishes a painting from a photograph is often the absence of texture and the sharp edges: in many paintings, edges are sharper than in photographic images while textured areas contain less detail. Such artistic effects can be achieved by filters that smooth textured areas while preserving, or enhancing, edges and corners.

Partial smoothing splines for noisy +boundaries with corners
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1993Investigates the estimation of 2-D boundary functions from sampled data sets where both noise and corners are present. The approach is based on the partial smoothing spline in which the estimated boundary function consists of an ordinary smoothing spline and a parametric function that describes the discontinuities (i.e., corners of the boundary). Corner Smoothing and Composition of Morphisms
2020The goal of this chapter is to define composition of morphisms of linear K-systems (Lemma-Definition 18.37) and to show that it is associative (Proposition 18.41). There are two key ingredients for the construction of composition of morphisms. One is ‘partial outer collaring’ and the other is ‘corner smoothing’.

Detection of corners and smooth joins using wavelet transform
ISCAS'99. Proceedings of the 1999 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems VLSI (Cat. No.99CH36349), 2003In this work a new computationally efficient algorithm is presented to detect both corners and smooth joins which is robust and simple. It consists of two stages: the first stage detects corners or dominant points, and the second stage detects point of inflection and smooth joins. Here a wavelet based technique is presented to detect all these features

SEMIREGULAR CORNER SINGULARITIES OF SMOOTH FUNCTIONS
Mathematics of the USSR-Sbornik, 1991The \(m\)-angular singular points of smooth functions with nondegenerate second differentials are considered. The bifurcation diagrams of angular singularities are investigated. Such singularities of smooth functions arise in variational problems which are equivariant relative to systems of involutions commuting on the spans of principal modes of ...

On robust corner preserving smoothing in image processing. [PDF]
This Ph.D. thesis treats consistency, robustness and dicontinuity-preserving issues of M-kernel estimators in one- and two-dimensional regression. The M-kernel smoother was first introduced by Härdle and Gasser (1984) who provide a restricted valid proof of consistency for a monotone score function and show the minimax property. Chu et al.

Corner smoothing interpolation algorithm based on PH curve
2019 3rd International Conference on Electronic Information Technology and Computer Engineering (EITCE), 2019In the process of machining, sharp corners will exist at the joints of continuous short line segments, and most spline curves cannot establish the accurate relationship between arc length and parameters. For the corner transition path of the short segment, the five-degree PH˄Pythagorean-Hodograph˅ curve is adopted to realize high-speed smooth ...

Local corner cutting and the smoothness of the limiting curve
Computer Aided Geometric Design, 1990Abstract Stimulated by recent work by Gregory and Qu, it is shown that the limit of local corner cutting is a continously differentiable curve in case the corners of the iterates becomeincreasingly flat.
