Effects of center offset and noise on weak-lensing derived concentration-mass relation of dark matter halos

open access: yes, 2014
With the halo catalog from the {\it Millennium Simulation}, we analyze the weak-lensing measured density profiles for clusters of galaxies, paying attention to the determination of the concentration-mass ($c$-$M$) relation which can be biased by the ...

Constructing Ionic Fast Diffusion Channels on LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐modification strategy is developed for LNMO cathode, where bulk Ti doping stabilizes the oxygen framework and simultaneously drives the in situ formation of LaTi2O6 nano‐islands as ion diffusion channels on (111) surfaces, enabling high‐rate capacity (∼100 mAh g−1 at 30 C) and excellent cycling retention (87.8% after 1000 cycles).

A hybrid contact approach for modeling soil-structure interaction using the material point method

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering
The grid-based multi-velocity field technique has become increasingly popular for simulating the Material Point Method (MPM) in contact problems. However, this traditional technique has some shortcomings, such as (1) early contact and contact penetration

Elucidating the Role of Surface Ligands on the Oxidative Etching of Au Bipyramids During Photothermia Using Liquid Cell Transmission Electron Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Gold bipyramids can act as efficient plasmonic nanoheaters, but they often reshape during laser heating. This study shows that oxygen nanobubbles drive oxidative etching and that surface ligands control stability. CTAB‐ and citrate‐coated particles blunt and lose optical performance, whereas polystyrene sulfonate preserves shape and heating by ...

Meso-scale Cracking Risk Analysis of Full-graded Dam Concrete with Different Autogenous Volume Deformations [PDF]

open access: yes长江科学院院报
[Objective] Autogenous volume deformation is a key factor affecting the cracking resistance of dam concrete; however, its meso-scale mechanism is often neglected in engineering practice.

Towards Practical Verification of Machine Learning: The Case of Computer Vision Systems

open access: yes, 2017
Due to the increasing usage of machine learning (ML) techniques in security- and safety-critical domains, such as autonomous systems and medical diagnosis, ensuring correct behavior of ML systems, especially for different corner cases, is of growing ...

Unfolding homoclinic connections formed by corner intersections in piecewise-smooth maps [PDF]

open access: yesChaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 2016
The stable and unstable manifolds of an invariant set of a piecewise-smooth map are themselves piecewise-smooth. Consequently, as parameters of a piecewise-smooth map are varied, an invariant set can develop a homoclinic connection when its stable manifold intersects a non-differentiable point of its unstable manifold (or vice-versa).

Dual‐Programmable Architected Magnetic Soft Materials: Tuning Mechano–Electric Responses by Inverse Design

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Materials that can deform, sense, and autonomously generate power in response to wireless magnetic fields, through both magnetic‐actuated shape transformation and charge generation, are an emerging focus in advanced functional materials research.

Feed Rate-Adaptive Predictive PH Interpolation for Real-Time NURBS Toolpath Execution in High-Speed CNC Machining

open access: yesMeasurement Science Review
This study presents a novel feed rate-adaptive predictive interpolation algorithm that combines Pythagorean-hodograph (PH) curves with non-uniform rational b-splines (NURBS) to improve real-time toolpath generation in high-speed CNC machining.
