Coronagraphic imaging on the VLTI with VIDA

open access: yesEAS Publications Series, 2004
In a few years, the VLTI will be able to combine light from 4 to 8 telescopes equipped with adaptive optics. In order to exploit the full VLTI infrastructure, a second generation instrument, based on the densified pupil concept (VIDA), has been proposed for very high resolution direct imaging and coronagraphy.

Coronagraphic phase diversity: a simple focal plane sensor for high-contrast imaging

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2012
International audienceExoplanet direct imaging is a challenging goal of today's astronomical instrumentation. Several high-contrast imaging instruments dedicated to this task are currently being integrated; they are ultimately limited by the presence of ...

The Subaru Coronagraphic Extreme Adaptive Optics System: Enabling High-Contrast Imaging on Solar-System Scales [PDF]

open access: yesPublications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 2015
The Subaru Coronagraphic Extreme Adaptive Optics (SCExAO) instrument is a multipurpose high-contrast imaging platform designed for the discovery and detailed characterization of exoplanetary systems and serves as a testbed for high-contrast imaging ...

SPECKLE NOISE SUBTRACTION AND SUPPRESSION WITH ADAPTIVE OPTICS CORONAGRAPHIC IMAGING [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 2012
Future ground-based direct imaging of exoplanets depends critically on high-contrast coronagraph and wave-front manipulation. A coronagraph is designed to remove most of the unaberrated starlight.

Coronagraph for astronomical imaging and spectrophotometry

Applied Optics, 1987
A coronagraph designed to minimize scattered light in astronomical observations caused by the structure of the primary mirror, secondary mirror, and secondary support structure of a Cassegrainian telescope is described. Direct (1:1) and reducing (2.7:1) imaging of astronomical fields are possible. High-quality images are produced.

Tomographic inversion of coronagraph images

AIP Conference Proceedings, 1996
Due to the rotation of the Sun the solar corona can be observed under different directions at different times. Using methods of computer tomography the three-dimensional structure of the electron density in the solar corona can be reconstructed.

Extrasolar Planetary Imaging Coronagraph (EPIC)

SPIE Proceedings, 2004
The Extrasolar Planetary Imaging Coronagraph (EPIC) is a proposed NASA Discovery mission to image and characterize extrasolar giant planets in orbits with semi-major axes between 2 and 10 AU. EPIC will provide insights into the physical nature of a variety of planets in other solar systems complimenting radial velocity (RV) and astrometric planet ...

The Gemini Planet Imager coronagraph testbed

SPIE Proceedings, 2009
The Gemini Planet Imager (GPI) is a new facility instrument to be commissioned at the 8-m Gemini South telescope in early 2011. It combines of several subsystems including a 1500 subaperture Extreme Adaptive Optics system, an Apodized Pupil Lyot Coronagraph, a near-infrared high-accuracy interferometric wavefront sensor, and an Integral Field Unit ...
